Hacking Dire Maul

On my server, aces for the Darkmoon Faire decks tend to sell on the auction house for between 150 and 200 gold. That is, except for the ace of warlords, which seems to have bottomed out at 4 gold or so - and there tend to be ten of them on the auction house at any given time. The drop rate of the ace isn't high enough to make getting these quantities easily, which does make one wonder where they're coming from. The usual answer - farmers with teleport hacks, which allow them to jump directly to King Gordok in Dire Maul, kill him, and collect their loot. This video, which recently showed up on Google Video, shows us what might actually be happening here.

And, no, I'm not saying Chinese characters = farmer, just that any farming operation will rely exclusively on such hacks, simply because they are more productive than regular farming.

Why can't Blizzard stomp out these teleport hacks? I don't get it.. isn't everything running on their servers? They should be able to easily detect these people and ban them automatically and immediately.

This article answered a few questions for me, the price of Major mana pots had fallen through the floor (they are 5-8G rather than the normal 12-15G). I hope, and seeing blizzard's previous anti-farmer stance, strongly beleive that bans will be coming.

As for teleport hacks, they are difficult to kill. Due to time lag between server and client, any MMOG has to strike a balance between smooth movement for the player and security of the server because this will expose any reporting flaws that are in the system. A classic saying in the MMOG world (I think it was from Everquest I) is: "The client software is in the hands of the enemy". With as much real money that can be made in WoW, it's no suprise that even the smallest crack gets found out quickly.

Holy crap.. Major Mana Pots are 5-8G on your server? I can barely get rid of them on my server (Agammagan) when I make them.

Also, as for teleport hacks...

You'd think the server would be able to tell that a player is warping around though. I mean, in that video, the guy clearly goes into places that are impossible to get to (that is, he basically just floats in the air). Certainly, it seems like Blizzard should be able to easily detect this and sort of auto-ban/suspend people as it happens.
