Confessions of an Outland clown...

I feel for Grim, posting on the EU forums about some of the armor options in Outland. I really do. As my Troll priest (above, in both soloing and healing gear) stocks up on Outland quest rewards I have to wonder what Blizzard's item designers were thinking. Are they all colorblind? Did they never consider that people might use many of these quest rewards together, and perhaps in a way that would encourage their eyes to bleed? I certainly don't feel like a hero defending Azeroth from the Burning Legion -- I feel a lot more like a clown. And all I can say is thank goodness I have shadowform, which obscures all of the conflicting colors. And considering Grim's post on the EU forums, I can only imagine I'm not the only one.

Err.. you know, I have a priest too, and since I respeced him shadow for levelling, I feel like he looks like a clown too in his new Outland greens. Granted he came from a respectable, but hardly top of the line, healing set with a white & gold robe (Truefaith Vestment), now he's running around in tight royal blue spandex pants and shimmer gold top. If this were Las Vegas, he'd win a prize.

I just started to have nice, matching stuff at 60, then the Burning Crusade burned my eyes... I have to equip it because it's better... but I don't want to...
Usually when people get new armor or weapons with great stats they're really excited. I just don't know if primary green gloves, a canary yellow cape (brighter than the sun), and a purple pimp hat really go "together". I know I can turn the head and back pieces off, but then I look like I'm running around without gear on.
As if ser bonuses weren't enough to make me want to get to 70, now I have to try and get there as fast as possible so I can look ridiculous for the least ammount of time.
I need that Corrupter... I need it fast...

A fellow warlock and I were on a run in Slave Pens, and our warrior opened a trade window with me - to get something from the other one...so this is what my friend said: "No no, I'm the Warlock in track pants." And yeah, it was an accurate description - especially considering I was still wearing my Robe of the Void.

It must just be caster gear... My warrior from 60-62 got quite a few quest rewards who's skins almost perfectly matched. A chest, Legs, boots, and gloves. They weren't even all part of a set or a pseudo-set. they just looked good together. Add to that my Jade shoulders and green cape, and I actually looked pretty well put together. Its changed a bit now at 63, so hopefully it won't get terribly worse.

Yeah caster gear... green, green, green and the occasional sky blue bit. Hmmm. It's a bit like being 44 again - nothing much matches and you can't wait to start getting a real "set" in your 50s. Maybe thats the plan - make us look terrible, so we can't wait to get sets at 70?

It is the caster gear. We are so ugly that people focus me all the time. I'm currently 64 but i look like a lvl50 :s

I feel your pain! My main character (warrior) is now questing in Outlands and has reached level 64. The quests are fun and the rewards are awsome but the gear looks horrible.
My warriors shoulders are green, his gloves are purple, his boots are yellow and he has the head of a wolf on his head (weird enough it's plate).
I feel more like a level 20 Warrior. Back then I also looked more like a hippy then a killing machine.

I'm glad to be playing a druid, where any equipment I have is morphed into my animal shapes. But then, feral gear has always been a clown suit, so it's not really a new issue to me. ;-)
Still, it makes you wonder why blizzard never implemented a feature that allows you to dye your gear a certain color. Even changing the primary colors, or the color schemes would be nice, so gear would match up.

Really agree with this. When I started on the Falcon Watch quests I was wearing bright green and pink shorts, a silly shirt and cowboy hat. It's sorted out a bit now though - back in robes and a wolfy-heady-hat thing. So that's fine.

I feel the same about the gear. A warlock wearing a green and pink robe, with a yellow cape, just doesn't incite the fear that a warlock wearing tier gear did. Of course... this might give me an edge in pvp, as my opponent may be too busy laughing at the noob warlock thats about to nuke him.

I've found the DPS cloth items available make a very mixed set for my undead priest. My healing set I've gathered actually matches as they tend to go for paler pastel blue colours. Unfortunately you'll always look a bit of a clown when playing a Troll no matter what your gear looks like. ;)

Maybe tailors should be given the ability to change the colours of clothing?

I'm surprised there seems to be so many people out there that care what their gear looks like. sure, if it's a set, it should all match, but more than likely you'll be replacing most of your existing gear with better gear in a few levels.
personally, i only care about the stats, but maybe i'm the only one ?

I don't like running around looking like a fool, but I do want to maximize my power by wearing the best gear. If that means looking like a fool, so be it. Hopefully I'll get the ugly gear replaced soon enough.
When presented with side-grades I often decide based on looks. :P

I was wearing the spandex-y blue pants for a bit, but then I found some much hotter black non-pants (you know the ones that have like leggings and a bikini bottom and show your thighs :D
Other than that and the pimp hat, which I dig, the situation is dire. The chestpiece my poor mage is wearing now is especially hideous.
@#14 - You'd be surprised how much gold you can make just by being a hot female character who is actually female IRL, but being a clown doesn't help. Oops... did I say that out loud... But seriously, there's a difference between "Zomg these shoes totally don't go with this 16-slot bag" and "Ahhh my eyes are melting out of my head"

I'm glad i'm not the only one who finds the expansion sets ridiculous looking. My undead Warlock looks like such a dork now, with his purple Indiana Jones looking hat (wtf?) and tattered everything else.

I've always thought caster items lacked the flash and just "awesomeness" factor that some of the higher level melee characters get. Like, if you look at a mid level mage versus a high level mage, you won't notice a huge difference (aside from maybe an awesome staff).
However, if you look at a mid level warrior versus a high level warrior, you'll immediately be able to tell the two apart.
Maybe I'm just bitter because for a few levels in Outland my mage looked like he was wearing purple and blue pajamas with parachute pants.

The whole issue is classic WoW; give you crap you wouldn't want to be seen in and let you grind or buy the rest. I can definitely sympathize with all the folks who sweated to 60 to get nice looking gear then had to take those low level 60+ items though. Blizz is just really recreating the WoW experience for late game players in Outland, complete with ugly gear if what we are seeing is accurate. Don't forget, level 100 is likely to be the final character level of the game, so early to mid 60's common gear _should_ look a bit lame otherwise what do you have to look forward to?

My druid is wearing shiny blue spandex leggings with gold tracings. And purple shoulders. And a brown smushy-slouch hat. And green knee-high boots. It's kind of awesome and I love it, because it's so incredibly tacky. I still match in my heal-gear, though :(
