WoW Moviewatch: The reckoning bomb

This video is not remotely new (though this copy is recently reposted), but since I don't think we've ever posted it, I thought I'd share this little piece of Warcraft history with you all. The paladin skill reckoning, while still darned handy, used to be much more powerful. For those who don't know, reckoning is a talented ability which gives the paladin, when hit by a critical strike, a chance of dealing an extra attack within a certain amount of time. However, in its original implementation, reckoning didn't have a time limit on its usage and would stack infinitely. As an example of how powerful this could be, here we see a paladin, who has saved up thousands of reckoning charges (by allowing himself to be crit repeatedly without striking back -- to the best of my knowledge with the help of a friendly rogue), one-shotting Kazzak. Yes, I'm talking about Kazzak the 40-man raid boss.
It doesn't surprise me that the ability was hotfixed within 24 hours. Not at all.

Just a note that reckoning now procs off of any hit, not just crits. It only took Blizzard a couple years to realize that a talent deep in the protection tree probably shouldn't be based on being critted. :)
Even though I've seen it before, that video gets me every time. I love how it takes a noticeable amount of time for the server to process all the extra swings, so you actually see Kazzak's health go down in a couple massive chunks instead of just full to dead, even though it all came off of one swing.
On a smaller scale, reck bombs were great fun in PVP. :)

This is what I love about "living" games like WoW that are constantly changing and evolving.
This is truly an epic event and probably one of the most significant "player-made" events in WoW, in my opinion. I mean, how can you argue with a single player (or two) doing something that would cause Blizzard to hot-fix the game within 24 hours of its discovery?
For someone to take a skill that exists in the game and use it in a creative way to accomplish something like this is just phenomenal. I love it.

I found it so funny when i saw a lone bubble running towards death... then i saw kazzak die? why didn't he redo it? whats the respawn time of kazzak? if it's less than 3 hours (just speculating, i dont really know) he could have done this 7 times in the 24 hours before it was hotfixed...
but the real question.. why didnt he do this with kel'zuthad?

I couldn't even understand what was going on, that movie was such bad quality. I just saw Kazzak die and that was it. Next time someone does something cool, make sure you use decent video capture software. Jeeze.

Yeah, no fault of this site, but that was like watching WOW through wax paper. Would have been great to see the combat log, too.

the reason he didnt do this to KT is that kt was not in the game at that time. heck i dont think bwl was in the game either.

@10 well he should have done it on as many world bosses as he possibly could have... in 24 hours he could have taken out roughly 7 world bosses, thats more than many guilds have ever done in months

thats the thing though, if i remember right Kazzak was the only world boss at the time. None of the dragons were implemented yet, Molten Core was the top end instance, and UBRS was still giving people troubles.

Yea, that was awsome. i dotn care how old it was, it was still a neat post. Even though the video was bad quality, it wasnt hard to tell what was goin on if u read the intro. Thanks for the post!

@10, At the time, Kazzak and Azuregos where the only world bosses around. The guys that did this were working on Azuregos shortly afterword with several pallies* but the horde came to kill him before they had the chance to finish.
Additionally, this required the ability to duel to stack up the reckonings, which ruled out doing this in an instance (which at the time were only Molten Core and Onyxia).

I will dig up the source video used on this so you can see the names and give homage to those who actually participated in the event. (I made an effort to block out the names involved so that no one would get banned or anything like that).
* Kazzak had something like 175k HP, while Azuregos is closer to 700k HP. Considering this took three hours of critting to get the sufficient number of reckonings stacked, with a single pally Azuregos would take on the order of 12 hours of sitting there being crit.

No point blaming this guy for ruining Reckoning. It's just human nature to show off something you've done that is cool and awesome. You can't blame Blizz for nerfing this, but it's still a bit sad to see the current Reckoning being a mere shadow of its previous self.
