Grimhorn has more HP than you

Sometimes the greatest ideas can seem totally crazy at first. A box with moving, flickering pictures in it? What is this sorcery? And how can you TALK to people through a bunch of wires and cables? There's a fine line between genius and insanity, and straddling that line is Grimhorn of Illidan.
Grimhorn has chosen a ... unique way to outfit his character. Instead of going for the usual hunter staples of agility, intellect and attack power, Grimhorn has invested entirely in green plus stamina armor. With stamina enchants. And stamina rings. And dual Goblin Rocket Launchers. And a green stamina axe with Crusader on it.
This has given him a whopping 1074 stamina, which means he has 17134 health (at last count.) Compare that to Death and Taxes' (presumably) main tank, Vestige, who has a mere 14504 HP. Of course, Grimhorn suffers the penalty of having absolutely no other statistics on his armor, leaving him with a 2 percent crit chance and no bonuses to ranged or melee attack power.
Grimhorn answers the question of how the heck he plays with this setup in a hunter forum thread. As expected, he mostly relies on his pet to kill things -- although he can efficiently trap as well, since that's not affected by attack power. He says he plans on removing some of his stam gear when he gets arena gear, but until then, he's content with just being the impossible-to-kill kiting hunter. He also doubles as a WSG flag carrier. Best quote from a fellow hunter: "It's kind of like a druid in bear form, without any arms or legs to attack you."
Hunters, what do you think? Is Grimhorn a total incompetent or a creative genius? Has anyone else seen highly unconventional gear or spec options that ended up working for their creator?

Good for you Grimhorn! Spec the way you want. No one else is paying your 15 bucks a month, so to hell with all the players that like cookie cutter classes. Do what is fun for you.I wouldn't wanna run into you in a BG. Kudos!

I am so sick of folks expecting cookie-cutter talent trees and gear when you are looking to group.
Honestly, that is absolutely why I became a dedicated soloer.
I have never regretted that decision.

Similar to what I did pre-BC. My character was decked in full "of the Monkey" gear (which is +agi and +stam).
After BC, I did have an almost complete tier 1 set, but soon I went for full "of the Bandit" gear (even with the 'bug").

Is that max health fully buffed? or just straight gear?
Because we have a warrior who was fully buffed for well over 20k HP. granted it was flasked, elixered, potted, talents, buffed out the wazoo.

Go grimhorn go. I feel inspired. I want a hunter like that now so I can fight right next to my pet in melee. That would be great. It was what I really wanted to do when I was going to start a tauren hunte way back when. Ofcourse I also wanted a cow as my pet walking cow and attacking cow come one thats funny. Then I find out hunter's can't have critter pets and I roll up my night elf hunter instead.
But I love the idea. Grimhorn my new hero.

That's just straight gear. That's freaking scary.
I would hate to have to fight him that's for sure. He's not going to be able to dish it out, but for BG's that works perfectly well. I can see why they made him flag carrier.
The only thing scarier would be a warrior decked out like that... Insane HPs and Plate? Talk about total tank. For a MT in a raid that would be kinda scary.

Well that certainly is a unique way to do it. I would shudder to think how long it would take to kill mobs but with traps used effectively, definately could do it. Sometimes I do wish my hunter main would be better at melee but takes too long compared to rapid fire. I wonder what spec he is? If BM spec, then pet would do decent damage at least...

I think it's brilliant. My Warrior is specced in Arms but I gear mostly +stam to compensate for the lack of bonus defense and to make a decent tank ;)

He he...that's awesome. It's always cool to see someone taking an unorthodox strategy and running with it. And it's a very interesting strategy too. He's not stupid - he's definitely specced to take full advantage of his high stamina. He's got a lot of damage-mitigation talents, lots of crowd-control...this guy is about as unkillable as possible. He's got an extra 20% health from talents and racial traits, he's got a ton of dodge (which makes up for his utter lack of agility). He may be a genius.
Hunter pets receive a bonus to their Stam from the Hunter, right? Which means that his pet is also nigh-unkillable.

I love it also. You shouldn't be forced into cooking cutter specs and it drives me nuts when people argue otherwise. Unless you're raiding you should just do what makes you happy :)
With all that said, I can't say that I'd want to run any instances with this guy...

@Rich - Tanks don't gear like this for a reason. A warrior decked in green pure stamina gear wouldn't even be able to tank Karazhan, much less anything truly difficult.
This is a nice gimmick and all but as other people have remarked, I'd never, ever group with someone speced this way. Good for laughs I suppose.

Hey if he has success running the flag in WSG good for him. Too bad he would be useless for everything else as a hunter, with his 270 RAP, tiny mana pool and zero mana regen.
I'm hoping he has a different set of gear and this is just his "gimmick" set.

More power to him!
The greatest part about the World of Warcraft is that we can design our toons talents almost infinitely to cater to the way we want to play. Seeing someone trying to be a little different with their character is what makes this game worth playing for me.
Now if only Blizzard would give us more choices with setting our characters a bit more apart from each other....allowing tailors to dye armor, creating more combos on the character select screen, etc...these would really help allow each person to truly be different from the others.

what's to stop him form having another set for DPSing when his grouping with a tank?
I keep a set of stam gear(PvP) / healing gear and some bits just for PvE. I even change it up sometimes when healing in a instance. If the tanks not holding aggro I put on a some stam (for next fight) so I've got more time wait for someone to pull mob of me allowing me focus on healing those who need it.

Not such a big genius. There's been a lot of people who did this before, but it never got this out of hand because the >60 gear didn't have that much stamina.
The hunter who lvled all the way up to 60 (back in the days) without ANY gear on, that guy was a genius!

He could actually get more stamina with better enchants and blue/purple stamina gear. The rare spawns scattered around Outland drop blue "of Stamina" gear, and some Kharazan bosses drop "of Stamina" epics. Might even be possible to hit 20k stamina with all that.

My friend collected stamina gear too :)
It's just something really interesting to do like I know a warrior who tried and gets spirit gear for the fun of it for grinding.
