More info on the Warcraft comic
BlizzPlanet's got a promotional writeup on the new World of Warcraft comic from DC (which we're supposed to be receiving a few copies of anytime now, I believe, here at WI Headquarters-- I'll go check my mailbox). As we've heard, the comic will have a Human protagionist (boo!). Fortunately, an Orc Shaman will play a big part, too (cheer!).A human is found unconscious on the shores of Kalimdor, with no memory of who he is or how he arrived there. Enslaved by the Orc Shaman Rehgar Earthfury, this man must fight for survival against members of both the Alliance and the Horde, striking uneasy relationships with other races in his quest to find the secrets of his past!
Wait, check out that pic-- he was found unconscious on the shores... with Thunderfury? Weird.
WorldofWar also points out that the comic may or may not touch upon the Missing Diplomat quest series, which many, many players are very interested in seeing an end do. I think it'd be kind of a cop out if they finished the quest off in the book (and never finished it in the game), but I guess we'll see.
Are you guys excited about this or not? Seems like you'd have to be a comic book fan to go for this one, as I doubt many WoW fans will be running into comic stores for the first time to buy it. But if you like both, maybe you'll like this.

I cant wait to see the comic finished. I saw the full first issue at their booth at BlizzCon and even the pencils are amazing. The group make up is looking like the human, a troll, an undead(which looks BA), and a tauren. It looks like its going to be a great series. I already have my comic book store put it on my subscription list.

Personally, I'm excited about it. I've been looking for a good fantasy series to start reading for awhile now and being a WoW fan, it looks like this might be the one.
But like #2 said, in the end it will all come down to the quality of the writing.

This is the first I've heard/seen of the story/artwork, and it's got my interest for certain. I'll hopefully pick it up if I can get my hands on it over here in the UK.
Like others have said, it will depend on the writing, but although it's premice sounds simple, it should mean theey can do what they want with it, and have some cool small adventures. Also, as a (mainly) Horde side players, I'm damn happy to hear the Tauren and Trolls get a look in, as they can somtimes be forgotten :D

I am a fan of Comics but I suspect this will be of about the same writing quality as the Sonic the Hedgehog comics.
Be nice if they treated it as a serious mag but I am guessing their target audience is a bit young for my tastes.

I'm fine with them having a comic, but it would be very weak on their part to finish the Missing Diplomat quest line in it. What starts in the game should end in the game as a resolvable quest.

I am EXTREMELY excited about this! I'm a freelance comic book colorist, and when this project came up in the trades looking for back end and pinup submissions, I almost wet myself. Hahaha. Unfortunately, I didn't get my stuff in fast enough, but I'm still practically drooling over the art we've seen. It's in a style that's just right for the subject matter. I can't wait to read the story and see how it fits into the lore.

This book looks amazing! Walter Simonson is an iconic comic book writer known for great and adventurous storytelling. The art just explodes off the page! And those covers! How can you pass on a package like that?
I got to talk to the editor of the book while at Blizzcon earlier this month. He told me that Blizzard is extremely involved in the creative process and direction of the comic book. So anyone thinking that this comic would be low quality and not be anything like the game can rest easy. The guys at Blizzard don't want a crappy comic book about their game. They'll make sure that it is just as amazing as playing the game!

My son and I saw this at Blizzcon, too, and we loved what we saw. There was a long line for people waiting to get an autograph from Jim Lee. But after that, we looked at the preview copy. Very nice art by someone else -- but clearly he plays the game. The person at the booth was pretty tight lipped about the story, even though I tried to get information out of him.

Walt Simonson is fine for this series. Anyone who doubts that should check out his Thor stuff. My concern is that Blizzard will nerf his style too much. If Simonson were let loose to play, this has the potential to be an outstanding series.
The art I've seen is fine, though if Simonson or Jim Lee provided pencils rather than "just" story and covers, I'd love DC forever.
Other dream-team artists I would have liked to see:
Jae Lee and Marc Silvestri's casters (especially females) would have been a sight to behold.
Todd McFarlane's orcs, tauren, warriors and paladin would have been similarly amazing.
Dale Keown's take on gnomes and dwarfs would have been fun. And Barry Windsor-Smith? Hell, he could draw Topper McNab, and I'd buy the entire series.
