Beware new Wrath beta e-mails scams

The account stealing scams are starting early this year. Many players received e-mails this week from a company that appeared to be Blizzard, inviting them into the Wrath of the Lich King beta. The link in the e-mail even took you to a very well done front page that asked you for, you guessed, your account name and password.

Blizzard let everyone know that this week that they have not issued any beta invitations and that any e-mails you may have received are false and, most likely, account stealing scams. They also went on to list resources they have previously posted that help prevent players from losing accounts, equipment and gold from these kinds of scams:

Blizzard recommended that all players interested in participating the beta should keep an eye on the official site for notification of when the beta begins.

Anyone who falls for this deserves to have his account stolen.

Blizzard will never ask you for your accountname and password. 'nuff said.

then i got the read the article title and got an equal amount disappointed.

Well, they're asking me for those two things literally every time I log in. And they're asking me every time I like to use the account management site.

So...I somehow understand that people might fall for these really well-done fake login forms. The only one who deserves anything in this case is the asshole that put that stuff online and sent out those fake e-mails.

i must say it looks almost real but the cheap fonts is kinda a dead giveaway that it isn't real

Yeah, the guy above who says they never ask you for a password obviously doesn't use the forums, account maintenance / ptrs, etc. All these feature routinely ask for passwords (in addition the the game itself).

What blizzard means is that they will never while on the phone with them, in email correspondence or chatting in game ask you for your password.

That bogus website jumped the gun on the scam, if it spent more time and had a better phishing email mechanism they would have been much more successful.
