Today's /silly comic deals with one of those concepts in real life that translates beautifully into online gaming: learning from one's mistakes. There are times in the game where you simply say,
man that was dumb. But at the end of the day you learned something, and are a better player for it. Some call these life lessons, and file them under the "you have to learn things the hard way" chapter in their gaming careers.
I fondly recall one lovely experience a couple years ago where I hit autorun in Zul'Farrak and hilarity ensued. Twice. We laughed, we cried, we ran until the mob of raging trolls tore us limb from limb. Good times. Have you ever had an experience like mine, learned an in-game life lesson that you would like to share with the class?

Gnome Mage Proffesion History: Tailoring up to 200 -> Skinning + Herbalism (which were 0 until I went to Outland when I finally decided to level them) -> Herbalism + Tailoring (Spellfire set) -> Enchanting + Tailoring -> Enchanting + Engineering ........ Lesson: Know what you're gonna do with your char from level 1. :)

Hunters: Put your pet AWAY before you jump down somewhere in any instance. Don't just put them on stay and hope they disappear.

Never try and be main healer for BM while still wearing your DPS gear...that was one FAST wipe...
ALWAYS fire off your spell boosting trinkets, you are wasting valuable DPS by waiting...
Don't innervate the warrior...(Thankfully fixed a few patches back so you can't, but it still used to suck BAD)
Never trust a shadow priest who swears they can MC a tank for an instance...
Beware of the Auto-Run key on an over-sensetive keyboard when waiting to start a boss fight (I'm looking at YOU bro!)

The priest one works for Warlocks as well - until you have a lot of experience using fear, don't use it in instances. For the longest time I actually kept it completely off my hotbar as it caused my first wipe ever - in RFC...

Don't accept a rez/summon while chatting and autorunning. I ran right off the edge of Zangarmarsh while trying to cancel the autorun with the chat still open. *blush*

Don't have your Blessing of Protection and Divine Shield buttons right next to each other. And if you do, do not have the main tank targetted when fighting Gruul if you intend to Divine Shield, just incase you misclick. And yes, I did misclick... >.>

Don't offer to help a Warlock get his epic mount in Dire Maul West, clear the instance, kill Immol'thar, and THEN realize you left the 3 ceremony items in the bank. Oops.
And definitely don't do it again after the first time, with the same in-guild group. Double oops?
You might get a nick-name.

As a mage, don't put Blink and Polymorph next too each other.
Although a far more important rule is DON'T TAB-TARGET MOBS IN INSTANCES. Those of you that have run UBRS know what I mean...during the Rend fight, NPCs watch from balconies overlooking the arena. You only need to attack one once to pull the entire instance. It's less of a wipe and more of a mess...

@ 11-- Same thing happened, helped the Lock clear everything -- he had the items, but started the final battle with no soul shards to repair the stuff!!! Always remember the soul shards LOL

don't shift out of bear to innervate your priest in the middle of a boss fight and then in your frenzy to get back into bear accidentally hit the wrong hotkey and end up as a cheetah.

Never, ever never swap 'Psychic Scream' and 'Fade' on the same Hotbar button (mouse) depending on instance vs. PvP.
Nothing more amusing than Fading while being eaten alive by a rogue during AV. OTOH, Fearing the instance while being the healer leads to all types of humor, group kicking, and guild banning....

@13 -- Haha, that's a good one too... and really, you can apply that to ANY instance situation...
"Okay guys, we're on (insert boss here) finally. Tough fight ahead... let's get a soul well for some healthstones, and make sure to SS (priest name)."

Oh, and don't try to Solo ZF as a shadow priest. You WILL end up being chased by the entire instance at some point, so at least have runspeed on your boots.

I learned that even tho your 70 your not a god in ZF, Apparently the healing totems heal for alot when they stack. It was 3 70s and a 40, prot pally, holy pally, ice mage, and 40 druid and we wiped in ZF cuz we pulled half the instance but those damn totems heal them faster than the mace could dps them and once he was OOM we were running.

Don't have your blink key next to the arcane brilliance key while standing on Hakkar's platform in ZG.
It didn't help that it was 2am when we were trying it, and had partial wiped/reset a few times.. but it was still funny that instead of buffing, I blinked to within 10 feet of Hakkar.
The guild got a good laugh out of it for about a week :)
