Leveling Mom and Dad through Zul'farrak

I think there's something so awesome about this story from Rufus on Livejournal-- his mom and stepdad have never gamed before, but they've leveled two characters up to 40, and during a run in Zul'farrak, they actually took on a whole gang of mobs, and lived.We've talked about playing with older folks before, but that's not even the best part of this story-- the best part, in my view, is the thought of two people discovering that they can do something they never thought possible. There is definitely an accomplishment and a thrill that comes with gaming (and this game especially-- taking out trolls is always fun), and it's awesome to think that these two were able to discover that.
I did a run of Dire Maul last night on my up-and-coming Hunter, and just like that Blackrock Depths run a little while back, there were a few newbies in the group-- we had to explain tanking and aggro a couple of times, and I had to use Feign Death. But even through just the chat channel, you could tell they were having a ball running through all the demons in the old elven city. That kind of stuff definitely makes me happy this game is around.

Thanks for showing the "glass half-FULL" side of playing with new players. We all get so peeved dealing with them and forget that we were once one of them. We've allowed our little bit of knowledge blind us to having fun.

I am one of rhose "older, new to the game" players. Don't really know if playing for over 6 months still makes me a noob, lol. My main got up to lvl 70 back in November. I love this game and thanks to my daughter that got me interested in the game; we have a blast playing our toons together when we can!!

Oh the nostalgia of begining this game. I remember beta with my dwarf warrior and then november 24 when the game was released, I thought I knew so much but turned out I didnt know shit after two months of playing. I still learn little things even playing after 3 years, but I cant remember the last time I ran an instance with someone knew, it just seems like veterans who "know-it-all" about the instance and wanna be the boss more than a party member, a leader is good to have but not one who ruins the fun of running ZF just because "I GOTTA GO IN 1 hour!"

this takes me back to when my mom first started playing her mage (i play one too) and I taught her how to aoe level, and what gear she should take from brd etc...now my aunt is leveling HER mage, and my mom is helping her learn the class =]

They really didn't pick anything up about tanking by BRD? I suppose, as a 44 rogue, I was asked to tank SM Cath a few days ago...

I am the mom and my kids, and even my son-in-law (known for impatience) were very helpful and generous with their time as I figured out WoW. There are some things I will always be slow at, it's just different when you did not grow up with a joystick or mouse as an extra appendage, but I love this game.
And now excuse me, I have to go see what the PvP quest of the day is...
