Heading for greener pastures in 2008?
It's the first month of a new year, and you know what that means: predictions aplenty. Across the MMOscape over at Massively, almost everyone is predicting that WoW is going to suffer-- there's no question that there's a long line of MMOs just waiting in the wings to snatch you players away from Azeroth-- from Warhammer Online to Age of Conan, there are supposed to be some terrific MMOs released this year.So who better to ask if you're moving to greener pastures than you yourselves? You're not supposed to ask whether players are leaving for Warhammer on the forums, but we've got no such compunctions: are you planning on leaving for Warhammer or any other new games in 2008? Are you just keeping time in WoW until the game you really want to play releases later this year?
Rest assured, die-hard WoW fans, that we're not going to become "WAR Insider" anytime soon (we've already got it over at Massively anyway)-- I love World of Warcraft, and while I'm definitely excited to see what Mythic and Funcom have in store for us this year, I'm also (along with all of our writers here) in Azeroth for the long run-- at least until I get to see what the Maelstrom's deal is and what's happening in the Emerald Dream.

The real question isn't how many people are planning to leave for (some other game), its how many of them come back in 3 months when (some other game) isn't all it was hyped up to be.

Your right Tridus. I was one who left wow before BC and went on to play: Star Wars Galaxies, EVE, EQ, and a bunch of free mmo's and in about 2-3 months I found myself back in Azeroth. If I quit playing wow it will not be for another MMO, but just because I am done playing MMOs all together. Even through all my complaints and what-not, I believe WoW is the Best MMO on the market, and I hope they dont ruin it with WotLK, not that I believe they will.

I will positively NOT switch from WOW.
I might stop playing and take up golf or motorcycling or standup comedy, who knows, but see not myself dropping WOW to play some other MMO.

I will definitely continue playing WoW. I just hope Blizzard does not rush the release of WotLK because they are scared about some competition.

I want to change. I'm tired of the total lack of balance, the bad PvP design, the completely screwed up raid progression in BC, the lack of decent patch timetables, the total waste of time patching irrelevant things (hello crappy voice chat?)...
The problem is... I can't and won't leave for a game that isn't finished or polished.
WoW had the luxury of entering the market at a time when games could pop on the market with content missing and polish needed. Now, with WoW being such a monster we aren't as willing to shell out $$ for what is essentially a beta-test period.

You sound pretty sad that you list all the things you hate but you cannot leave because you cannot find anything better? Um how about learning to deal with quitting an addiction instead of looking for a new drug.

I'm in kind of the same situation, but not OSwise... I have no DVDROM drive, 512 RAM, and a 2ghz single core processor. :(

i'll try out some new MMOs. whether or not i come back to WoW completely depends upon the quality of the new releases this year. but i'm sure i'll keep playing on a somewhat regular basis.
who doesn't try out new games? its not like you're "cheating on WoW".

There's really only one game on the horizon that might pull me away from WoW, and that's Starcraft II.

I totally look forward to the "next MMO" so that I can finally move on from WoW. I'm just looking for an excuse, just so far nothing has been really worth it. I played some of Warhammer at GenCon and it's quite the possibility. Will I be leaving WoW? I sure hope so.

I was in the beta for Warhammer and I hated it, same with Tabula Rasa. They just didn't draw me in like WoW does
Sure, it'll appeal to some people, but I don't think Conan or Warhammer are "WoW killers". That title is reserved for WoW itself or possibly World of Diablo

My question is more are they actually going to release those games this year? Both of those games had been slated to come out last year and kept getting pushed back. I feel confident they will not be out until almost the end of this year. However, to answer the actual question no I will not stop playing WoW for these other ones.

I just wish they would work harder on pvp class balance then some of the other stuff thier doing. I think it's alot more important than the next big 25 man...

I've been known to divert attention from WoW for a month or so at a time, so nothing's really stopping me from trying Warhammer or Age of Conan.

My friend and I are keeping our eyes peeled for the new stargate MMORPG. As Sci-Fi fans we are really pumped about this one.
With that said however many have tried to duplicate the success of WOW and most have failed.
