A peek at Blizzard's pimpin' new pad
The most interesting thing to me was their personal museum, which will include things such as the Emmy award that the South Park episode "Make Love Not Warcraft" won, and a bottle of Chardonnay from the debut night of Warcraft III. I'm sure that in no time at all, this museum is going to be packed full of cool things.
This new 240,000 square foot complex also includes a theater, a gaming room, basketball courts, a gym, and a Warcraft-themed cafeteria. Every ounce of my nerdhood longs for an opportunity to take a tour of this place. In comparison, their old HQ was a wooden shack with a few boards missing. This is a definite step up for Blizzard, and a well deserved one at that.
When you're the biggest(one of?) game company in the world, you need a fly pad to accompany it. Blizzard now has that in spades.

Very cool article! Man that would be so hawt to walk in there and see some of the statues and stuff that they have in their lobby. Companies like Blizzard, Google, and many other IT companies have some of the most enjoyable work environments--makes me miss my old job with all our parties, shenanigans, and just a fun environment--made the long hours you put in much less noticeable--because you WANTED to be there--any company that can make their employees want to stick around after hours knows what they are doing (used to work 10+ hour days because I liked my coworkers, my office, and the projects I was working on).

What a coincidence, I was lucky enough to score a visit to Blizz HQ last Saturday (it was a family/friends open house sort of thing). I still need to get the pics up on Flickr or something, it was really cool. Probably one of the most amusing things was the multiple copies of Rock Band I saw, though almost every office and cubicle had something neat in it - baby Murloc plushies and the like. Didn't spot any secrets, and if I did, I signed a waiver promising not to talk about it for five years anyway :).

I wonder how possible / impossible it is to get a job with these guys. I expect that with their level of success, they could probably set the standards for recruitment *waaaaay* higher than any other software company, kinda like Google.
The other thing ... A company that creates software for international non-profit businesses is located within about a half-hour's drive from my apartment, and they have remarkable facilities like these (many of the same amenities). However, their staff turnover is ridiculous; most 'team members' are blessed if they're working there for more than a year. I wonder if it's like that at Blizzard; frequent out-with-the-old, in-with-the-new sort of staffing ... ?
