Reminder: The Wrath Alpha is not open to the public

We've mentioned this already, but let's reiterate something: Though the Wrath Alpha client is floating around out there, be very very careful about what you download or try to access. The Alpha servers are not for you, and attempting to download the client isn't wise. My recommendation is simply to not do it.

We all know how many accounts have been stolen due to keyloggers hidden in links, ads, and other things. Keep that in mind before you click on a download link. A dirty .exe with a filename disguised to look like a Blizzard downloader for the Alpha client is out there. There are probably more than one. Nobody wants to lose their account, and we don't want you to lose yours, either.

They assume we are the least common denominator because, let's face it, 10 million people and how many can be astronauts?

Besides, Alex has proven that he believes he's better than the rest of us before.

He has this job in between raids, and we haven't seen him on Meet the Bloggers, because what is there to meet we haven't already met?

I'll read you stuff, Alex. I'll read it because it's that or read something from Betalinks.com that has been reiterated a hundred times. Frankly, amusing myself by watching you stroke some invisible epeen is non-erotic and amusing at the same time.

We laugh at you because all of us have known someone like you at some point in our lives. The school band nerd graduates and becomes the self-popular game freak. Yay.

Hey, since we now know Blizz monitors this site... let's ask ourselves... and Joystiq, you conglomerate peoples you, why is it wowinsider is not a recognized fansite?

You would think that people would learn if they don't have anything nice to say they would say nothing at all. ( see above )

You would think people would know to do such things as not download something that could infect their system. Again that would be wrong as well.

Note it says "Reminder: The Wrath Alpha is not open to the public". As in reminding people who read not to be foolish enough to get caught with this.

Even such "intellectuals" such as yourselves could at least understand that for every one person that knows better there are at least five who will not. At least Alex has enough common decency to put out a reminder in case someone attempts to make this mistake.

After all, he could be leaving inflammatory comments on a news blog attacking another writer. I am sure that's better time spent there... so sure...

Unsure why folks felt the need to be so harsh. It's not an epic editorial, it's a piece of information, he kept it short and sweet. If it bores you, don't read and move on.

Thanks for the tip! I don't plan to download the Alpha, but the thought of people making malicious executables hadn't crossed my mind.

I assume that they posted this yet again because there are still people out there that accidentally download viruses. While you may be too busy basing people on web forums to have the time to download a virus that doesn't mean that everyone is so preoccupied.

People will still click on that shiny button that promises them knowledge of something that millions of people want. They will still think that maybe this one really is it and WoW Insider just hasn't heard about it yet. Yes, its stupid and foolish but those people are still out there.

So, WoW Insider has warned us yet again, just like the mother that has to tell her rebellious and foolhardy child not to put the keys in the outlet over and over again. So if you aren't the stubborn and forgetful child, be thankful. But if you are, WoW Insider is here to remind you yet again to not stick the keys, fork, knife, headphone jack, or even your fingers in the fake beta outlet.

Friend & Family is just that. It's friends and family players only. Meaning you have to either:
A) Work for Blizzard.
B) Be friend/family of a Blizzard employee.

It is a good warning to people. There are sandbox servers and whatnot out there, but you are taking a big risk when you start downloading applications from possibly untrustworthy sources.

From time immemorial (like, the first bulletin boards), people who have been there a little while forget they were ever new, and anyone who acts new or addresses the needs of the new is reviled and de-spi-sed (pronounced like in Handel).

Short term memory problems, I guess.
