70 Orc Hunter running for Connecticut legislature
More politicians are coming out of the WoW closet. Jeanne Stevens is a WoW player -- with a 70 Orc Hunter, a 58 Troll Shaman, and a 53 Blood Elf Rogue -- and a Republican running for the Connecticut state legislature. And she freely admits it in a new interview with Wandering Goblin, as covered by our sister site, Massively. Her hunter is balanced between marksman and survival, her shaman specs elemental (close to my heart!), and her rogue climbs the assassination talent tree. Will she be able to master the beasts in her political race? (Okay, you go ahead and insert your own shaman or rogue wordplay here.) Maybe she'll hold some in-game speeches or rallies. She could hold forth on top of Orgrimmar's bank, or maybe lead a raid to Stormwind as a metaphor.Is it surprising that a Republican chooses Horde? I think you could make a case for either faction going with either political party. Personally, I love to see that she's middle-aged and a woman, which defies Blizzard's assumptions about the majority of WoW gamers. She also chooses pirates over ninjas. I'm not sure there's a political comment there, but I'm sure someone will show me the light.

Actually, as a middle aged mom with multiple 70s--we definitely are not in the majority. I find other people like myself to group with, but it's only through a concentrated effort.

Pirates are better than ninjas, or at least their (pirates) are the current obsession in the US.
Read Chuck Koslterman's IV. It has an entire chapter on Pirates vs Ninjas, and our obsession with each.

First I would like to say, Real World politics should have NO place in WoW. Anyone hosting a Rally or giving speeches about Real World politics, in game, will risk the chance of gaining my vote. In fact I feel that any political figures that choose to campaign Real World politics in such a way should receive a server ban, as it is no better than gold farmer spam.
Outside of the political standpoint. If she likes to play WoW good for her, we all need an escape from real life. As for age, I expect we will see more and more older players in the future.

Even if I were in the US I'd never vote for a republican. Especially a female one - I have zero respect for people of my own gender who want to restrict women's rights.
Whether she plays WoW or not makes no difference to whether you'd want that person making laws.

First of all, you over-generalize party politics. There are middle of the road or even conservatives who do not necessarily follow the Republican party line but do not agree with most of the Democrats. Number two, I can only assume your generalization comes under the argument before for or against abortion. That comes under personal belief of when a life starts. If a person personally believes a life starts earlier or a differing opinion on defines life, then I fail to see how defending that belief not to let people commit murder (this would be the belief) is going against women's rights. Quite alot of Republicans do support better birth control, the morning after pill, and other means to prevent it ever reaching that point. To brashly claim that being Pro-life versus Pro-Choice is taking rights away from women is, in fact, advocating that people cannot have a personal belief system. You can vote for who you want or not, and I have no idea what this woman supports, but not all democrats are pro-choice and not all republicans are pro-life. The beauty of the system is that we vote and support who shares our beliefs about the issues. It's not a faultless system, but it's ours.
If I am wrong and this is not what you were referring to, I apologize. But I, personally, have zero respect for people who will not consider the other side of an issue.
More on topic, I think it's awesome to see a woman politician who's also defying the 'stereotype' and being a woman gamer too. Would this make me vote for her? Nah, I base my votes on whether I agree with her on issues or not and I'm not even in that state so my vote is moot. ;) I still think it's cool that she plays.

For what it's worth, I've seen far more right-wingers on Alliance side across the half dozen realms I frequent. I'm a liberal progressive/Dem. Most of my toons are Horde, and my guildies and I are happy amongst the majority of center-to-left thinkers.
But that's besides the point...we play to have fun, not promote a political agenda.
