Breakfast Topic: Is more data needed in the Armory?
Yogi suggested in the forums that the Account Create Date should be added to the Armory. He would like that info so that he can tell the difference between people telling tall tales and actual veterans. Nethaera pointed out that there are many ways to assess people's abilities without this often inaccurate information. After all, some players are currently playing mains on what began as alternate accounts purchased months or years after first playing the game.
I think it would be fun to know the real veterans from the professed veterans, but I don't think exact account creation dates are the best or most fun way to do it. Actual in-game veteran rewards and titles would be much more fun, in my opinion, and could be listed in the Armory.
What information would you like to see added to the Armory? Do you think that account creation dates would be useful? And is it really necessary to call my poor neglected druid "untalented" for all the world to see -- in capital letters no less? Yes, I haven't logged on to her in years and her talent points are now reset and unspent but that hardly means that the poor thing is not gifted. Wouldn't "unknown" or "undecided" convey the same information without being so pejorative?

IMO the only way to gauge how good someone is, is just to group with them, really.
If Blizz goes on with those 'achievement' things, that might be added to the armory in the future.
I would like a feature that allows us to select what gear etc is put on our armory. As a druid and a roleplayer, there's lots of gearsets I can log out in that are absolutely not relevant to my current spec.

Maybe an ingame option for alternative equipment sets... I look up loads of tankadins but can't see their equipment because they wear ret farming stuff...
Same thing with Holypriests wearing damage clothes...
Also I'd like to see a list of alts of the character I'm looking at.

Yep, biggest problem with the Armory.
Different gears/specs make it totally useless for looking someone up. Hell, I respec for PvP on the weekend, and I grind/quest in my PvP gear, but usually my raiding build...
When I log off, I could be in PvP gear/spec, Raid gear/spec, or PvP gear and Raid spec. I cannot begin to image the configurations a Druid may end up with...
It'd be really nice if the Armory had profiles so you can save snapshots of your armor/talents, along with the ability to show you with/without self-buffs.
A dream, I know... :P

Ehh, I know the creation date of my main on my EU account, 15 November 05 21:26 CET give or take an hour. But I've never had a WoW subscription running for more than 4-5 months at a time with 4-5 month breaks. But I think I've seen petty much all the major events, I missed the Corrupted Blood plague on my EU account tho. Hell, I remember back when you could sell the Alliance Gift Collections on the AH for 100g a piece.

They need an achievements section, basically.
Some place on the armory (and perhaps this in-game thing reported for the expansion will work the same) that'll tag your major kills so you can get a good idea of how long that a character has been around. Maybe you un-sub every 3 months for some reason, maybe you just don't play a character a lot after downing a raid, whatever. It'd let you easily point out how oldschool you are, or not. It's probably the "or not" portion that Blizzard is less interested in everyone knowing if I were guessing. I really do think the players with less than a year's worth of playtime are the dominant factor in this game and they have to keep them in mind over the hardcore picky 3 year veteran.
I don't like the idea of an account creation date IF only because it'd let you suddenly tie alts into mains with nothing more than suspicion. Unless you have a Day1 account, there probably aren't a ton of people who would have your same day... and if all your alts have the same day tag and you don't REALLY want anyone to know who you are on one of your alts but someone has a sneaky feeling about it, they can actually get confirmation of it. There's a few other sorta privacy-type related things out there... but I think there's a good reason they don't link you to your alts already with the Armory.
I'd like veteran rewards, but honestly I'd like to see them implemented in the form of unique one-shot holiday event items. ie: the Brewfest ram is out, the Brewfest Kodo is in and after this year you can't get the Kodo and next year it's a Brewfest rideable ravager or something. It'll show you were around at a particular time, but so far the only interesting thing so far is the Argent Dawn tabard you got from the Dark Portal event. (I'm hoping for a Silver Hand tabard in the Lich King event...)

What "tall tales" are you trying to check? If they claim they were big-time pre-BC raiders, check our their Hydraxian Waterlord reputation etc. If they claim they've just been around forever, what does it really matter to the rest of us?

I agree with the thought of in-game titles, especially if they activated some for old-world content.
Everytime someone asks me where I got a piece of older equip, and I respond Ony, MC, or BWL and they go...
"What's that"
I die a little inside.
Heck, there are hunter's who ask me where I got my epic bow and staff on the rare occasions I strut around Shatt with it.

I, for one, absolutely do not want my alts on my armory. My alts are my business, not anyone who decides to look up my character.

I agree. Sometime ago, an Insider blogger said guilds are entitled to know of all a player's alts without saying why. I ask why but there was never an explanation. I still wonder why and wonder why anyone feels this information is important.

How bout this for a question...
Why does it matter to you what "achievements" a character can claim... and... why do you think its your right to know how long a player has been playing the game.
any drooling idiot can play a game for years and years get tons of characters to the end game... they might even wander into raiding... might have even been standing around when the rest of the group downed illidan
or, even better... bought an account that the previous owner had killed EVERY boss in the game twice.
The only real judge of how "good" a player is will always be to run with them...

Well... if you're looking at raid experience, the easiest ones to check out are Hydraxian Waterlords, Brood of Nozdormu and Cenarian Circle. Hydraxian may not seem so killer, as toward the end before Pre-BC, a lot of people spent a lot of time in MC. Brood of Nozdormu, however, indicates a lot of time spent in AQ40, with CC rep indicating time spent in Silithus and AQ20.

I want my recipes on The Armory. I want them visible to my guildies, and vice versa. Protect them via the same mechanism as the guild bank: require login.
