BlizzCon 2007 Beta codes will be used for Wrath

EU CM Wryxian has good news for everyone who attended BlizzCon last year (or just bought the beta key cards off of eBay): the codes given out last year will be used for the Wrath of the Lich King beta. Wryx says if you've got a code, register it immediately, and then do what everyone else is doing -- wait for the beta email to show up.To tell the truth, I'm a little disappointed. I've got a beta key from BlizzCon, but I've already signed up for the Wrath beta through the usual channels. Of course, we still don't know how this works -- maybe those with a key will be given access before those who just signed up randomly, but it sure seems like everybody will get in eventually. Which means that even if you didn't get a key at BlizzCon, you'll still get into the beta anyway. I thought that Blizzard would have treated those who came out to their event a little better (and, at the very least, been a lot clearer about how registration for the beta is working -- are they making it up as they go along?).
But on the other hand, the open registration just means more people will get into the beta, and I don't have a problem with that -- the more the merrier. As always, the problem with Blizzard is communication -- it's fine if they want to keep which beta these WWI or BlizzCon keys are for a secret, but when the beta registration actually starts, they should make a plan, stick with it, and let all of us would-be beta testers in on what it is.

I'd be the first to assume that Blizzard would allow people to use the keys given out at BlizzCon 07 or WWI on which ever beta they wanted. Be it WotLK, SC2 or D3.

I wonder if the beta keys from Blizcon 2008 will be able to be used for this. But then again it might be to late and the beta will be over.

I wonder how the beta notifications go out? Do they just release, say, 5% of their expected invites per week? Per day? Over the course of the entire testing period? I am just curious how this would work. I am assuming that this is going to be a far bigger beta testing environment considering they allowed people to sign up. I also got the impression from this story that everyone will eventually get into the beta? Am I wishful thinking or what?

Precisely. And I don't understand what the secrecy was about anyway. IN fact, what I have thought they should do is simply say "this key can be used for the next beta of your choice." I mean, I'm fine with it being WotLK... but there were a lot of Starcraft folks there and they'd probably much prefer to use the key for SC2.

this is what was on the WoW-Europe forums from Wryxian:
"We have some information to share regarding the beta codes received by those who attended the 2008 Worldwide Invitational or the 2007 BlizzCon. These codes are going to be used for the Wrath of the Lich King beta test."
So yeah... I'm pretty sure ^_~

There's a lot of people out there (myself included) that would really love to be a part of the Wrath Beta testing. And Mike Schramm is complaining about being in it two different ways?!? Give me a break. Stop whining and be happy that you have access to (or very soon will) a game that MILLIONS of people are eagerly waiting for. You want special treatment because you went to a convention, where everything was probably paid for by someone other than Schramm? Cry me a river. Go write us something that is informative, instead of criticizing the company that helps you pay your bills.

Could you be anymore sycophantic? Is it unreasonable to suggest that those who deserve beta should be the ones that get in as a priority? Not at all. The sense of entitlement in the community is disgraceful.

Is it just me, or do these two statements contradict each other? Also, you missed my point. I have no sense of entitlement, but I would love to be in the Beta test anyway. Mike Schramm is obviously in it, yet his article is just a bunch of whining and complaining. How can someone have what so many of us want, yet just sit there and complain about it, when he's been given a chance to enlighten us just that much more. Thats disgraceful. If your in, you're lucky. Tell us how great it is. Tell us whats the coolest new thing. I, personally, would rather read that.

I'm curious where people are getting the idea that everyone who opted in will eventually get into the beta...
I read that the invites would be random, but there have to be been thousands, if not more, I'm being conservative, of people who opted in. Is everyone of them going to eventually get an invite? Please document where someone from Blizzard said this...

Blizzard's past actions. I was in the beta for both WoW and BC - and in at least one of those (I'm old - and I don't recall for sure which of those it was, or if it was both) they "opened the floodgates" toward the end, presumably to test the new stuff under high load. I want to say it was WoW, as I remember a *million* night elves in their starting area...

Anyone know how to check what things you've put in your key for on the Blizzard site? I'm pretty sure I entered my Blizzcon 07' key but I can't quite remember.

Wait, does this mean that email invites are still going out? !!! So, I should continue to check my email every 5 mins?
Please, let us know when the invites are all out, then we can relax and go back to playing instead of hoping.

sure dude, in every betas I made invites were send everyday until the closed beta status ends. there is a few massinvite days that deserves to be announced but most of the time it will be a few random like events attendees, addon/website authors,optin, etc etc
