Wrath Money Sink Found: Dalaran teleport rings for 8000 gold

Here's a brand new find fresh from the Kirin Tor capital of Dalaran on the Wrath Beta servers. We've been wondering for a while what type of money sinks Blizzard might implement in wrath, and we've found one, to the tune of 8000 gold coins: A set of melee and caster rings that not only deliver some pretty sweet stats, but also have a free teleport to Dalaran on use to the tune of an hour cooldown.
The rings are sold by Tiffany Cartier, the Jewelcrafting supply vendor in Dalaran, who hangs out next to the jewelcrafting trainer. They come in both melee and caster versions, and seem to have pretty solid stats. Still, the main draw is the teleport, and it seems very likely that it will be on a separate cooldown from the Hearthstone. That means that for a paltry sum, you too can feel somewhat like a Mage once an hour.
It's also worth noting that Tiffany herself is on the Kirin Tor faction. That means that if you care to do a bit of grinding before you spend your dough, you'll be able to haggle the price down to 6400 gold -- still far above the price of Burning Crusade's major money sink.
This is certainly a useful and clever way for Blizzard to siphon money out of the economy once we all hit 80 and start doing all our Argent Crusade dailies, and it makes me sort of glad I didn't blow all my money on the Gigantique bag craze. Of course, now I need to figure out where I'm going to find the gold to buy one for all my alts.
Thanks to Kurai for the tip, and Alex for heading to Dalaran for screenshots.

I don't think this is really a true money sink; since it's not really a 'must have' item. True, you don't HAVE to have an Epic Flying Mount, but it certainly makes the game far easier. These rings, not so much, since I'm sure not there will be better options not far into the expansion.

So I HAVE to do dailys everyday and save 8000g if I want an epic? Is this how wows becoming? Just a giant grind for everything? I can see it becoming elitist to the point where unless you can afford shit like this you wont raid anything half decent.
Its not that I care about the cash, its that mounts make a great gold sink, because if you wanna be cheap and spend only 1k instead of 5k gold you can, but it doesn't effect your ability to be a contributing member of the raid or your guild. Wheras if you wanna be cheap with this item and just use some blue another player who wants to waste 8k gold WILL be picked over you.
This is not what WoW is about at all, and I for one will not play if this is what wrath becomes.

or.. there will be other rings just as good (stat wise) But if you cant afford the 8k youll have to leave 20 mins earlier to get to Dalaran raids. The 8k is for the Teleport more then the stats which Im sure will be just as good on other items. If not better once you get into 25 man raids.

Oh man I love these comments. I'm quitting because of patch 2.3! I'm quitting because shamanistic rage is only 15%! If you quit for such a paltry reason as them adding this item or similar items in game well, that's quite a silly belief to have.

I think the game changing to where you have to do dailys everyday just to get your gear is not just a paltry reason, Personally I liked how things were before dailys, its just more freebies for casuals. And this seems another sign of casuals getting something else for free (without having to set foot in an instance, cept a bg instance)

This seems REALLY useless.
Like my flying mount, i'll probably skip it.
sephirah Jul 29th 2008 7:50AM
Useless for 8k.
A 15/30 mins cooldown, transport to any major city for 10k+ would have been more interesting.
Roxton Jul 29th 2008 7:58AM
In which case, can my mage buy stealth, demon form or plate armour for 10k? No? Then you can't have my teleport.
infection Jul 29th 2008 1:00PM
your mage picked up stealth for 15 seconds.
good try
Zakk Jul 29th 2008 1:13PM
Roxton, teleport spells don't help in combat. Buying a teleport spell is more akin to buying a mount. Mages get teleports for free aside from the minuscule cost of reagents, Paladins/Warlocks get level 40 mounts for free aside from the minuscule cost of 1g.

How much time does the "use" action take up on the ring?
If it's an instant action, then you could use the ring when you're about to be killed by mobs, or when you need to get away from that pesky lvl 80 ganker.
Roxton Jul 29th 2008 7:57AM
Yet another thing I won't have to buy because of me being a mage. What's that? 8k gold and a 1hr cooldown? I can do it for 2 silver! With no cooldown. Suckers.
Kolo Jul 29th 2008 8:19AM
And you can also be ganked in 2 shots by most classes :p
Roxton Jul 29th 2008 11:44PM
Kolo, come the expansion pyroblast has a 1.5 second cast time. Who's laughing now?

But maybe it is?
Thought of a HS in shattrath and the ring for dalaran?
Or HS in IF and the ring for dalaran? ;) Well i wouldn't like it either tbh, but it would still be usefull imo.
John Jul 29th 2008 9:04AM
God job Blizz, no not really, you couldn't get me to part with 5k gold for epic flying (let me fly in Battlegrounds then I'll get it), and you certainly won't get 8k for this, I'm pretty hardcore about when I use my HS, so I don't really need an extra teleport, but if I do, I'll get one of those new scrolls of recall from the inscribers, I have a feeling that even with only a 15 minute cd they'll sell for far less than 8k g

Anyone else notice that the signet doesn't have Spell Critical Strike rating, only Melee crit rating ?
Sage Ingy Jul 29th 2008 9:16AM
Spell crit and melee crit are being combined.
gowwriter Jul 29th 2008 9:16AM
Spell crit is being removed. Crit rating, hit rating, and haste rating now affects all of melee, spell, and ranged.
porkycain Jul 29th 2008 9:25AM
Anyone else feel that all these stats being combined is gonna turn into, "Dis helmet for melee, dis helmet for caster." Seems like less variety in the long run.
