Cast of The Guild to be at BlizzCon
Both by way of the World of Warcraft official website and Felicia Day herself, the news is out that the cast of The Guild will be at BlizzCon. The cast of the web-based sitcom will be sitting on on a discussion panel and giving a preview of the upcoming second season of The Guild.
If you have absolutely no idea what The Guild is, you're really missing out and I recommend giving it a watch. The first episode is embedded above to get you started. If you want to know a little more about Felicia Day (who you may know from the more recent internet phenomenon Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog), WoW Insider interviewed her back in August of last year. What do you say, Felicia. Up for round two? You can bring the whole crew this time! We won't try to groom you, I promise.

Really? Because I find it makes me feel like I have a spine. New media (ie. blogs, podcasts, vidcasts etc) isn't going to get anywhere if it has morons like these embarrassing it. It is bad form to post comments on another person's blog solely to promote your own, and continue to do so after being asked to stop by the owner of the site. Respect is earned, not granted by default and no-one is under any obligation to be nice to idiots who should know better. So stow away that bleeding-heart and see that guy for what he is.

Your level of arrogance has gotten really tiring around here.
BTW how's that awesome content for Blizzcon you said was coming? Haven't heard much about what you're going to do at Blizzcon yet. Of course I'd look at your website to find out but as others point out it's blocked with a malware warning.

I like wanna-be historians, they're always good for a laugh. We ran afoul of Blizzard due to the direct intervention of an ex-staff member, who maliciously exploited their connection to one of the EU higher ups to have our staff and posts banned from the EU forums. That issue was sorted out over a year ago when Thundgot investigated, only to find that they had no idea where the blacklist order came from, or why it had been put in place in the first place.
So yeah, arrogance would be assuming that you know more than you really do, and next time, try the term hypocrisy, it's got more syllables and is more appropriate.
We announced our Blizzcon plans months ago, maybe you should pay attention in future. Heck, we even reminded people of them two weeks ago.

Fix your WowWiki page on WoW_Radio then to have the correct history or at least mention your side of the story. It's hard to laugh at people for believing something that you've left on the wiki for over a year and half. While the resolution commentary has been there since January it certainly didn't say that you were banned by influence of a past staff member.
Of course I don't know more than you do about your history. Never said I did. But you do post ridiculously arrogant posts on here. Really, calling people amateurs? By all means vote the guy down. But I really don't think you're special enough here to feel the need to call people names.
As far as the Blizzcon coverage. You made a huge point of pointing out how great your Blizzcon coverage would be when the issue of the NDA stuff came up. That you couldn't possibly cover the Wrath Alpha without risking your ability to do that.... You don't think that had a certain air of self promotion going?
My point was mostly that everyone had to start someplace.

WoW Wiki? Really? You're trusting a source that anyone can edit that doesn't have quality assurance standards as to the origin of it's information? Funnily enough, the whole tit-for-tat with Blizzard is not common public knowledge and we don't make a habit of spreading it around. However, if you're making a commentary about something you obviously don't have all the facts about, you'd think you'd gracefully yield to the guy that does, rather than making excuses and citing a source without citations as your evidence.

He is an amateur. The problem with people like you is that you don't like the truth. For some reason you seem to think you should be nice to everyone on the internet, nurturing and caring. Well screw that, those kind of people come back to bite you in the ass later. Look at yourself for a moment, you're defending a guy who does nothing more than spam useless comments promoting his blog, day in, day out, after being asked to stop by staff members. I can understand the concept of devil's advocate but this is ridiculous. The guy is being a dick. This isn't a case of bashing the new guy, it's a case of teaching someone the hard lessons of courtesy. When you come around to play in someone else's backyard, you don't take a dump in it at every chance you get.

And I take it the fact that we have a professional relationship with the WoW Insider team brings no bearing to that promotion? We have a relationship in the interests of mutual promotion. We produce and host their podcast, we promote them, they link to us and promote us, that's how it works, and it's worked out very well so far. How can people engaged in a professional cross-promotion relationship not 'self-promote'? I mean, how would that work exactly? You're stretching a bit here, don't you think?

Yeah and that place is the school of hard-knocks. The internet is the meanest place on earth, and unlike others who just do it for the sake of being unpleasant, I'm giving this guy a curt, to the point lesson in professional courtesy. You do not come into someone else's backyard and take a dump, particularly when they ask you to stop. Simple as that. If you think that's 'mean', then go on thinking that way. Cry more, seriously, but keep your bleeding heart from staining the carpet, I just had that cleaned. This nicey-nice attitude is why new-media doesn't get taken seriously. Criticism is a part of every form of media, from books, to newspapers, to the movies. Yet for some reason you think machinima, blogs and podcasts should be immune to it? Bullshit. They need to learn the hard lessons the same way the established media did, through being criticized and no, criticism is not always nice, but that's not the point. You suck it up, you improve yourself, you move on. That's how you get to be good. You think I haven't been criticized? My work's been criticized, my station's been criticized, does it matter? Is it personally offensive? Hell no, because it's either constructive, in which case, we can use it to improve our service to the community, or it's baseless, in which case we just ignore it.
You wanna complain about people criticizing others on the internet? Seriously, suck it up and grow a pair, really, it's the height of whining.

Bah, I think Felecia understands the wacky world of new-media and the tom-foolery that goes on surrounding it. After all, she produces new-media and has no doubt received her fair share of criticism. After watching The Guild and the success that it's gained due to the talent backing it up, I'm sure she's taken that criticism into account. That's how people who are good at what they do operate.

I had expected a more professional and mature demeanor, especially from someone who boasts about having a "professional relationship" with this website. "This nicey-nice attitude" isn't why new media isn't taken seriously; it's the failure of the producers of new media to behave like adults, as you yourself are doing. You are certainly not representing WOW Insider or yourself particularly well, and if I were on the editorial staff of WOW Insider I would be seriously reconsidering the decision to maintain said relationship with you.
There is a difference, TotalBiscuit, between criticism and cruelty. You have crossed the line. I strongly urge you to read and consider Eric Burns's excellent essay on criticism, located at http://www.websnark.com/archives/2008/08/the_sad_thing_i.html . (NB: I am a loose friend of Eric's and have no other relationship with him, professional or otherwise.) To be blunter, your response to wowblogger wasn't criticism of any stripe. It was just mean, and your subsequent responses show that it was not just mean but mean-spirited.
If it is true that wowblogger has been repeatedly asked by the staff of WOW Insider to either add substance to his comments or stop posting links to his website, then it behooves him to change that. I don't intend to call out one person behaving unprofessionally in order to defend another person behaving unprofessionally. wowblogger, if you have been asked to stop, then do so. It is in your best interest to have the goodwill of the people on whose blogs you comment. (Otherwise, they will start deleting your comments or blocking you wholesale - making those outbound links moot.)
However, wowblogger's transgressions do not excuse yours, TotalBiscuit. Again, I believe that, based on this comment thread and your general pattern of behavior, WOW Insider should consider the possibility that continuing a professional relationship with TotalBiscuit is not in WOW Insider's best interests.
That's all I have to say in this thread, and I'll be leaving it alone for now. Thanks for reading this wall of text. I hope it provokes some thought.

We have a professional relationship with WoW Insider, not wowblogger. Whether or not you 'think' I'm not representing either organization well is irrelevant. My outgoing personality reflects my on-air personality. Neither is fake, it's called being genuine. If you don't like the truth, and would prefer people be nice rather than right, then the internet is probably not the place for you. If you really think that WoW Insider should not be maintaining a relationship with us then perhaps you need to talk to Mike. Mike understands who I am and what I'm trying to do, indeed, an increasingly large portion of the WoW community is 'getting' that I'm not being mean for the sake of it, that the WoW community needs a kick up the ass and produces it's best work under criticism. Sounds cliche, but 'I do it because I care'.

I don't care what a random essay writer thinks. If you think I can't criticize then perhaps you might want to listen to my back catalogue. 'Judge them by their works'. This guy on the other hand doesn't deserve an essay on why what he's doing is wrong, any imbecile could see that it was, and I'm laughing my ass off that people are trying to white-knight his bullshit. You're getting an essay because you actually made the effort to put forward a reasoned argument, and I can respect that.

That is between me and them, not you. They knew who they were dealing with when we partnered up over a year ago. They still know me now. I'm personal friends with several of them and I discuss this kind of thing with them on a daily basis. They 'get' what I'm trying to do and they also understand that being nice is not a pre-requisite for professionalism. Indeed if falsehood is a requirement, then you can take your definition of professionalism elsewhere, because I don't share that perspective.

The only thought that it's provoked is on the subject of why the kind of thick skin most people develop in every-day life suddenly evaporates when they go online. If this whole situation wasn't so amazingly surreal, I think I might be a little irate about the whole affair. But no, you guys are white-knighting a spammer, you've obviously taken leave of your senses and thrown your objectivity out of the window. In anycase, no matter how TB said it, it's frags like wowblogger.blabla who messes up everthing and no matter how you turn the pages on that note, it's still spam, - bad spam at best - it has nothing to do with TB or anyone else, - with the slight exception of wowblogger who should pack his endless spam and put it where the sun dont shine, IF he wants to have his site promoted he shoul'd be such a wanker about it, there are other ways, better ways, and tbh. ways that will get even me looking - now it just reak spam, bad-net-behavior and what not.
@OT: Good to see falicia going out there, and do tell if the episode of house is worth it...
