BlizzCon schedule and interactive map

BlizzCon 2008 begins this Friday October 10th and it looks like it's going to be a great time. Blizzard has posted the schedule for the two day event, as well as an interactive map of the convention.

On Friday there will be WoW relevant panels about the UI, classes, and artwork. On Saturday there will be panels about WoW PvP, raids & dungeons, a general Q&A session, and more class panels. The opening keynote is set to being at 11:00 a.m. PDT on Friday morning.

There are a lot of interesting attractions and events that'll be going on in addition to the slew of vendors that'll be there. There will be several large hands on gaming areas, a charity auction (hopefully some cool things will be presented – we'll be sure to let you know what's there when we find out), a developer signing, some archery, and Blizzard trivia.

WoW Insider will be covering the event in force. We'll be covering everything we can with live blogging, images and video from the floor, and several other great features. Lots more to come this week!

Friday October 10th

On the Interactive Map, as you click listings at the bottom of it, it marks their location with the quest icon.

Looks like I have to choose between going to panels and watching the tournaments. That's a hard choice.

But no Starcraft or War3 tournaments? A crying shame that, a well executed Starcraft match is a lovely thing to behold.

At the risk of sounding terribly noob, is there any way that we can get watch the stuff going on besides buying a satellite dish that we have to sign away our souls for? I'm certain there'll be an awful lot of blogging going on, but there's no substitute for visuals.

It can certainly be understood why they took this route. Remember they don't 'have' to livecast coverage on t'internet, they didn't have to for any of their previous events. They did it as a fan service, a courtesy. And look what it got them. Forum threads declaring Blizzard rubbish alternately for the bad technical errors and coverage competency or for choosing the Octoshape client.

I can well understand why they chose not to do free coverage, if all it gets them is flaming when it went wrong. If the coverage they get by having viewers pay to watch, justifying a better set up, is of a better quality I'd say it was a good choice. A shame for we who do not have the means to watch but probably a good choice. If it goes well.

A pity though, the Diablo 3 announcement at the invitational was the best bit of 'television' I've seen in years.

WoW Radio's coverage will be live and free. We will be covering the announcements and panels, rather than the tournaments, as well as providing 10 hours of live shows every day and exclusive interviews. All of this can be had at http://www.wcradio.com when the day comes around. You will be able to tune into either of the panels or our studio stream, and download every panel, announcement, interview and show afterwards as a podcast. Videos of game footage and interviews will also be available.

We're also going to be doing something cool with the WI crew and the guys from Warcast. Watch this space.

As much as I enjoy Blizzard and all their products, this thing cost 100 bucks and it looks so small on that map, its 2 days long and basically you camp out in the Main Theater. where PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) was 40 for a full 3 day event, expo hall filled with many different games including WoTLK and SC2 (I believe they will have D3 @ Blizzcon but I doubt it will be playable) PAX to me still screams like a better deal with more stuff to do.

Well, there are 3 hands-on gaming stations and I'm guessing that the red box is where Diablo 3 will be stationed at.

I for one am jealous of everyone that will be able to play it for the first time. Having gone to the last two BlizzCon's, I was saddened to have not been able to acquire a ticket.

I do hope those going have tons of fun and I can't wait to see some coverage this weekend.
