Breakfast Topic: Is the Zombie event too PvP for PvE?

But there have been complaints. Someone I know thinks this is the worst thing to happen to WoW. Her specific complaint is that this event is allowing players to "grief" their own towns on PvE servers. She believes that the zombies should not be able to prevent people from completing quests -- even if it is only temporary.
What do you think? Should the PvP component of the event be removed for PvE servers? Or do you find that the fun outweighs the drawbacks?

No, it's not too much PVP for PVE, it's lore, and as such, anyone turned into a zombie should be considered as part of the environment (Zombies have to fight to live, no normal player has to)

The sad thing about this event is that I might even have liked it if it didn’t interfere with Hallowe’en. Although that’s not to say, I’d be one of those players griefing their owncities, I’d be in the middle of it cleansing to keep my cities safe. (So okay, in essence I’d be a Zombie Griefer Griefer - someone who kills Zombies and cleanses the infected.)
Aside from the bad timing of the event, the PR was nearly non-existent except for cryptic hints. If Blizzard had actually advertised it well, there would probably be a less complaints from people and the Zombie army might actually have been bigger. (Especially would have liked to see a “Event runs from X to Y”)
Limited timed events should never interfere with other limited timed events. Sorry, I can’t see the fun in turning into an undead and killing npcs that other people need while the Hallowe’en event - something I love - is playing through.
It’s interesting that a lot of players feel so threatened with cleansing that they instantly revert to crying and insulting people. Sorry, I don’t crush under “#@%#$% you, @#$$!!!” It’s an event that I got forced into participating and if you’re going to f### around with the NPCS, I’m going to defend them. You made your choice, and I’ve made mine. See you on the other side, Ray.
The biggest issue with a lot of people is that there’s a lack of choice here. You have to participate either way. You either join a Zombie faction or get griefed by a Zombie faction - you can’t pick a safe medium unless you stop playing the game (which is NOT a solution as you’re paying to play it in the first place) or go into an dungeon (which is counter productive since you need a group- - if you don’t need a group, you’re more likely not going to get much experience (if leveling) or fun out of it if you didn’t want to do an instance in the first place).
If this remark gets voted down, which is will, it won’t be because there were bad things in it, but the fact that I disagreed with the kiddies who like griefing their own side.

@DOT - I tottally agree with you on the basis that the timing of this is pure crap. They could have made the crates mysteriously appeared on the last day of Halloween.
As for your comment about being forced to participate in this event, I'm going to have to disagree with you. So far, on my server, I have been attacked several times by zombies, and each time I have crushed every last single one of them. Its gotten to the point that many of the zombies will make sure to steer clear of my big cow butt. If they dont bug me, I wont bug them.
When I am on my priest, its a similar thing. I just cure myself and move on.
Then again, I am on a low pop server and everyone knows who I am: they know not to bug me with stupid crap like this.
My biggest complaint is that it causes durability damage when you die if an NPC hits you even once. Sorry, but getting a 40+ gold repair bill from being a Zombie for the first afternoon was enough to deter me from participating anymore.

It's not too much PVP on a PVE realm. PVP still happens there, it's just more controlled.
Don't take the event away from PVE realms, just restrict it based on the PVP flag when player vs player action is involved, like some in the Survival Guide thread mentioned.

I'm on an RP server. Watching Horde players run around gleefully spreading the infection, even offering through chat to infect others, is ridiculous. Horde characters treating the plague as an opportunity for destruction--of their OWN TOWNS--is simply annoying and stupid.
But it's not the game that's the problem; as always, the problem is the players who rolled on an RP server with zero interest or knowledge of RP.

Zombies should not be able to infect PVE realm players who are not flagged for PVE. Sure, on a 70 its not hard to fight them off and go on your way, but it if you want to play an alt in the teens on my server, you get routinely one-shotted. Thats not really smart design for an event on a PVE server, nor is it smart design to interrupt one world event with another. Its a shame because the idea of the event is so much better than the execution.

"Fun" is relative. There are people that would call it "fun" to ram a 15 inch rubber cock into a carefully selected cavity of yours whilst covering you in chocolate milkshake and singing "Hallelujah". I'm rather sure you'd disagree with the treatment.
Just because you find something "fun" doesn't mean everyone does. People should have had the option to stay away from this event.

It's brilliant fun! join in! it's only temporary! if you don't like the zombies fight them!
Enjoy it while it lasts, the quest givers will still be there after the zombies are gone.

Last night on my realm, I noticed in the WorldDefense channel that Crossroads was getting attacked over and over, so I decided to head on over there and see what was going on. A small army of zombified players was attempting to take over the town and was killing lowbies, quest givers, etc.
I decided to take matters into my own hands and killed every last one of them. The hate tells and whining I got from these griefers was delicious.

Exactly, wonderful loreful event :)
However, I wish there was some defense from the people who aren't acting like zombies and really like griefers (running in and exploding in the SW AH. Doesn't benefit the scourge whatsoever and just annoys people.)
Maybe if someone who was going to turn into a zombie in 1-2 minutes could be shot by anyone. Imagine the anguish that could cause Paladins on RP servers, while they follow in Arthas' footsteps :)

I wish I could enjoy it, but I'm too busy trying to enjoy Hallow's End. Two limited-time only events should not overlap and especially should not interfere with each other if unrelated.

I'll admit that last night, I was somewhat annoyed by three high-level players (well, one 65, one 70 and a 48 mage) who went into the starting area and began turning all of the NPCs into zombies. There were numerous requests for help from players who had just rolled toons as they couldn't complete their quests. So, having nothing else to do at the moment, I decided to see what help I could offer.
I was initially peeved that these three just kept coming back for the purpose of causing the level 1-5s grief (and even said so on the general chat)...
That was, until I got sort of caught up in patrolling the starting area, killing any zombie I saw! Even took out the high level players on several occasions, with help from the NPCs and a level 60 paladin that was helping out.
We did this for awhile until things calmed down and the three who were causing the problem got bored and left, then left the starting area and soon I found a few more nearby from the same people...but with higher level NPCs who were now zombies. This made it more challenging, but still fun. Fighting with your back in a corner, low on HP, healing potions on cooldown, buffs about to expire, armor in the red in a couple of areas, while wave after wave of zombies are coming over the hill and then - POW! You're...dead? No...now YOU are a zombie as well!
The one whom I was fighting simply said, "Hello" (which for some reason I heard in my mind in a sort of Vincent Price, Boris Karloff kind of voice) as though welcoming me into the fold.
To this, I replied, "Brains?" Then I helped to wreak havoc until someone killed me...

While grammatically correct, that could also be misleading. That should be re-written to say, "I was initially peeved that these three just kept coming back for the sole purpose of causing the level 1-5's grief, which they even admitted to on general chat..."

I love this event, my husband was giggling like a school girl last night trying to get every gnome in tinker town infected.
