The plague is gone, zombies dropping like flies
Just as Tigole said, the plague has indeed gone away. The crates are still there, but you can't contract the plague anymore. The zombies haven't been wiped out yet, but they'll eventually just wear themselves down, they can't spread the infection. No ceremony, no big events or explosions, the plague just stopped being effective. A little disappointing, really.However, there is a rumor, a rumor, that at 4 PM PST there will be stuff goin' down in Azeroth. Supposedly it will be 'epic.' What is it? I don't know. It's entirely a rumor, but man do we love us some rumors. You do too, don't you? I thought so! Well, if anything actually does happen, we'll be right here to let you know!
Edit: Well, a whole lot of nothin' happened. Rumors are a fickle mistress! A few readers have reported that the necopoli outside of major cities are hovering lower in the sky, but it's difficult to tell. That's all we've seen or heard so far.

Actually there was a bit of an event when it ended. There was an attack on the SW Cathedral and then there was a 'cracked necropolis' crystal which had a quest attached to it.

@Yeng: That happens regularly. It's attached to the Scourge Invasion (ziggurats/necropoli) part and not the Zombie Plague part.

Just did the crystal q in UC and attacked the invaders. Saw the shocktroopers and start spamming SoC at them... they were not amused and started chasing me all around UC... was funny!

I totally agree. I wasn't much of a fan of this event. Especially consider it screwed up some of my Hallow's End fun.
On a side note, let's be a little more mature and use the rating system when something offensive or hateful is said. Not just because you don't agree with their opinion. Grow up.

offday: the Report button (!) is for hateful or offensive. The Up button is for useful, informative, or funny. The Down button is for stupid, lame, or "misinformative at best".

The "RUMOR" stems from the timing of all the other events.
All the current world event phenomena has started every night at around 7PM EST (4PMPST).
The plague timer decreasing, the rats running around SW, the sudden arrival of Putress in Shatt... all spawns around 7pm EST every night.
So the assumption is that every night around 7PM EST new "stuff" is going to happen leading up to the release of WOTLK.

Clearly, a new, dynamic, interactive event lasting a few days in an MMO that's been out for 4 years makes it "getting old."

The event was totally avoidable on lowbie alts too - I leveled a new dwarf hunter to 14 over the past week.
