+1 SexyMap - Minimap replacement with style.
Atlas Nov 11th 2008 9:13AM
Agreed. SexyMap is full of win. : )
camealion Nov 11th 2008 10:37AM
sexymap is really cool, but if you use in conjunction with Minimap Button Frame you might want to disable sexymap controlling the minimap button cause they conflict with each other.

also, WoWMatrix is the friendliest Mac addon-updater. Works swell, continually is improved and updates from all of the above sites.
hENNIFER pANTALON Nov 11th 2008 9:15AM
Sorry to flood, but there are a LOT of addons here that achieve what other addons here are doing - so that perhaps you shouldn't just blindly download everything thinking that the sites will swell tomorrow. I would definitely update all the mods you have installed however, and if the site admin/poster would GROUP these addons over the span of today (map/quest/class specific/combat log) than it would be easier for the new guys/gals who are looking to get into addons for the first time (and we know there's tons of you out there, referred friends!)

I used to severely dislike WowMatrix, but it's come a long way in terms of usability. My wife and I now both use it, and see no reason to look anywhere else.

I just downloaded WoWmatrix for the last patch, and now I love it too.

Great, detailed list. I'm surprised that CTMod isn't listed though...some of the addons included in that, like CT_MailMod (allows you to download mail all at once...great for people who auction lots of stuff), CT_BuffMod (displays a bar for each buff you have, with a countdown timer) and CT_PartyBuffs (allows you to show icons of buffs on your party/pets), are exceptionally useful. Others are redundant to those listed above, like CT_BarMod or CT_ButtonBar.
It was the first AddOn I ever installed for WoW, and I can hardly imagine gaming without it!
Justin Nov 11th 2008 9:27AM
Yeah i remember when CT Mod was required for almost every endgame guild. But sadly its populatity has faded but not in a bad way. From what i have heard the team that used to make the CT Mods have done a lot of work with blizzard to improve their actual UI. If you look at the original CTMod most everything is included into WoW now
Wolftech Nov 11th 2008 9:34AM
As far as I know, CTMod was never updated for wrath and is a dead project. I replaced it long ago with other, better addons like Ora2 for CTRA, Postal for CT_mailmod, and Buffalo for my buffs.
Steve Nov 11th 2008 8:31PM
It's very much alive...last update was about 7 days ago.
Naix Nov 11th 2008 9:25AM
All those addons are useless except 2.
Questhelper
Omen
Even Omen is quickly becoming obsolete with Blizzards new threat meter.
Angry Joe Nov 11th 2008 9:41AM
I hope you're kidding.
Zerounit Nov 11th 2008 10:08AM
Ah yes, the in-game threat meter. Where "Attacking You!" is considered fair warning.
Jay in Oregon Nov 11th 2008 11:45AM
Now, now, Zerounit, it's just fine if you want to leave your cursor hovering over the mob in order to see what percentage of threat you have in the mob tooltip.
*boggle*
I'm glad Blizzard is implementing SOMETHING, so newcomers can get used to the idea of threat as an element of the game; they'll get used to seeing "Attacking you!"
But Omen is heads above the built-in threat meter, and because 3.0 uses the built-in threat meter, not everyone has to have Omen installed for it to work!
Kei Nov 11th 2008 12:04PM
"Attacking You" is actually great for healers. I usually never look at omen so when I suddenly see several "Attacking You" messages I can quickly hit fade instead of getting instantly owned by all the adds.
Nith Nov 11th 2008 1:53PM
Omen meter shows threat by everyone, in many cases it is important to know not only the aggrod person (tank) but also 1st and 2nd on threat list.
My top favourites:
Non combat:
Ark Inventory - customize your bags however you want, see it all in one frame, see what you have on your alts, in your bank, guild vault etc on any server for any char at the same time.
Cartographer, Atlas, Atlas Loot, Questhelper (warning may be come dependant on it)
Gatherer, Auctioneer = $$$
Combat:
X-perl - removes the need for decursive as it highlights range, and anything you can dispel. Not to mention easy to start using by highly customizable
Healbot - A must of any healer and helpful for many other classes, when use with x-perl removes the need for many other add ons
Omen, DBM - a must for any raid/instance
Pally Power - best addon for blessings
Trinket Menu - if youre gonna get 1 addon for trinkets, this should be it
Bartender - if you ask me Blizzard should hire the guys who make this and incorporate it into UI.
Theres a lot more and many class specific add ons that really make your life easier.
Also if somehow you haven't already make sure you have vent client installed.
Naix Nov 11th 2008 2:12PM
No I am not kidding. All the other addons are pointless IMO. I think the default UI is awesome, built in threat meter is great, and the mini map finders is cool.
Messing with the Default UI is like buying a Porsche and putting on Civic parts because you think they will work better. Seriously Blizzard has spent millions to develop the perfect UI and now you going to replace it with something 1 person threw together?
Sparler Nov 12th 2008 9:46AM
"Messing with the Default UI is like buying a Porsche and putting on Civic parts because you think they will work better."
Nope.. It's like putting Supercharger in a Civic.
Bliz opened the UI specifically for this reason. They knew everyone would have different play-styles. You just happen to like Civics is all.
For the rest of us -- some like Turbo, some Superchargers, some NO2.
