World of WarCrafts: Faction scarves

Every Thursday, Shelbi Roach of The Bronze Kettle guides you in creating WoW-inspired crafts using real world mats with World of WarCrafts.

Though some of you may not have made it outside since the release of Wrath of the Lich King, I assure you that in some places the weather is quite cold.

One way to keep warm this season is by adorning these 100% hand-crafted scarves sold in Wingo's Crochet Shop. Each scarf is reversible and is perfect for the coming winter. She currently has both Alliance and Horde scarves in stock.

Is there a guide on how to make this? I'm freezing and could defiantly make it with the pattern.

im puzzled as to why the alliance scarf is $5 more:S, are we alliance supposed to be richer or something?
nice looking scarf though, i can see it possibly working with some guilds getting a custom guild logo printed on scarves.

Anyways I would buy a HORDE version but I never wear scarfs, maybe if they had one with an orc on it... hm

My guess is the alliance ones are more expensive because the pattern is more complex than the horde one.

I agree with JJ. It's the complexity of the scarf. I'm sure she lists her prices based on labor, and a more complex pattern equals a longer time to make.

That being said, even though I'm Horde, I like the Alliance one quite a bit.

Just goes to show you...if you want to make money doing whatever the hell you do make it related to Warcraft.

I bet the chick that knits those is getting record sales.

Both Alliance and Horde are now sold out, thankfully I got the last Horde but now will have to fight my wife for it!

Not to put a damper on things, but does she have a license from Blizzard to commecially sell and profit from items bearing recognizable images from their trademarked intellectual property?

@Bri, I very much doubt it, and she may well get a Cease and Desist from Activision/Blizzard legal about this. They would actually have to do it, no matter the case.

It all comes down to that sticky situation, defending your IP (Intellectual Property). If you don't defend it, no matter how small the infringement, you risk losing a serious court case when company X presents evidence that you allowed others to profit from your IP without your implicit consent. If I were the one knitting WoW materials and selling them and became the precedent for some knock off company to profit off Blizzard's hard work then I'd be pretty depressed. I know there are several T-shirt sites selling non authorized WoW related items, and funny as some of them are I stick to the authorized stuff, this is the first time I've bought something non-authorized; strictly because it is a hand crafted item.

Despite the large number of Blizzard folks who read this site, I do hope that minuscule infringements of hand crafted goods like this are rare and allowed to continue under the radar. Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and I could be entirely wrong about everything except my personal opinions, do your own research. ;)

I bet this has already happened. I just visited her site (11:55 CST, 11/27), and these are no longer offered for sale.

I understand why Blizzard would do it, but seriously... I get a little tired seeing people's creativity stomped on. I wish Blizz would work with the people and come up with a mutually agreeable solution instead of the blanket C&D.

Actually I bought the last Horde one and at that time there was only one Alliance left, so both sold out as opposed to a CnD being issued.

THAT is really cool! As an avid knitter I think I could probably reconstruct the Ally one (she crocheted the design on top? very smart!). For those asking the Alliance design is a whole lot more complex than the Horde one, hence the price.

So many possibilities.

Personally I am not a big fan of blue/yellow on me so I'm trying to think of maybe a shadowpriest-themed scarf.
