Don't unlearn your blacksmithing weapon specialzation

You will be unable to learn a new one. In a bug first noticed by new DK's wanting to craft an epic to bring to Northrend with them and later confirmed by other characters, if you go to Winterspring to pick up a weaponsmithing specialization the three NPC's do not give it to you. As a swordsmith myself, I'm not willing to unlearn my profession to test it out, it does seem very strongly corroborated at this point.While this isn't a major issue to those of us at 80 as there are currently no top end weapons that require one of the three specializations, it not only prevents these leveling characters from making the epic weapons it could prevent a character who currently is an armorsmith from being able to trade specializations. It's certainly not the end of the world for most of us, just don't try and retrain until it's fixed, but it's got to be a bummer for the people who intended to have a fun new toy in Northrend and will instead be staring at a pile of mats they won't have any use for.

Engineering has never been about making money. It's no different at 450 than it was at 375. If you're an Engineer, you do it because you're essentially a "dual class" character. You have abilities that no one else can have.
Yes, it's a gold sink. So what. It's fun!
Oh, and you can actually make decent money off Mechanical Squirrels, Mechanical Yeti, Deadly Blunderbuss (Horde), and the Bladed Pickaxe and Hammer Picks. I know, it's not much, but it helps.

Engineers never put up the mechanical pets on the AH. Being just 2 pets from 50, I would pay 100-250G for them, but I just can't find an engineer with the mechanical pet patterns (squirrel excluded).

It has no effect on learning or trading between weaponsmith and armorsmith. I did just that a couple nights ago. It's only a bug in learning or relearning the weaponsmith specializations.

You know, I tried to level my blacksmithing, I really did. But after spending 250g on mats to make 5 Thorium Axes, which were soulbound and sold for 3g, I said to hell with it and went back to gather/gather instead of gather/production.

Engineering is borked only if you decide to be an idiot and go for something you sholdn't *coughbloodsailcough* so it's really you borked, not the profession.

tailoring specializations are still relevant because you still get double-procs off the cloth.
I switched from mooncloth to shadowcloth tonight because, as a healing priest, hilariously, now I'm better served making ebonweave because whenever i get a new cloak I'll be putting darkweave embroidery in it, and I have a tailor friend who's DPS and will be making moonshroud for lightweave embroidery. with our powers combined, we can churn out the Glacial Bags (22 slotters).

That's odd. A DK friend of mine has been wielding his fully upgraded Lionheart just fine for a week or so, now.

Judging from the thread, it's possible the specialision cannot be learned if you've trained Grand Master Blacksmithing. There's a similar problem with the SSO gathering daily where it's not available if you've gone beyond Master in your profession.

My DK got his weaponsmith specializtion just fine. Perhaps these people are forgetting they have to do weaponsmith specialization(http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5302 for horde and http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5284 for alliance) *before* they pick swordsmith/axesmith/macesmith, which is the Winterspring npc's.

In beta, I unlearned weapon spec and switched successfully to armorsmith, but I never tried going back to weapon spec again.

I am a weaponsmith, but have not been able to train Master Axesmith. This has been a bug for over a month. I am the correct level, and have done all things required to become a Master Axesmith. It's really quite frustrating that I can not craft those items, even if they are outdated.

Here's a thought ... you know blue has stated that the BoP specialisation weapons are a thing of the past ... perhaps they've gone a step further and removed the axe/sword/mace specialisation as well, seeing as (at this time) there is no real need for it in the end game.
There are 2 or 3 weapons at level 78 or so which simply require you to be weaponsmith, but absolutely nothing in game that requires a further specialisation (aside from the level 70 stuff, ofc)
Just a thought.
Anyway, as soon as I no longer have any need for my Bloodmoon (around level 75ish), I'm going armoursmith ... I'll still be able to craft the Titansteel Destroyer, but I'll have access to 3 pieces of Armoursmith armour, which are all pretty decent, which makes weaponsmithing pale in comparison (at this stage, at least)

as a tailor I went from moonshroud to ebon this xpack.
just had to go to shat to unlearn and learn.
dunno if BS is the same way, but for tailors its a) a waste unless they come out with something worht making b) easy to swap but about 150g a change.

I was able to get Master Axesmith just fine on my DK. He even had a Bloodmoon from level 68-75 before he settled on the De-raged Waraxe. I do recall, however, going straight to Winterspring upon meeting the BS level requirement and they wouldn't train me in a specialization. Then I found the right NPC back in Org to make me a weaponsmith first, and the Winterspring quests worked just fine after that. So I know it works, but it may be a byproduct of being a Grand Master or something like someone else posted.

you guys kind of all missed my point: you can't unlearn engineering specialization. you have to drop engineering completely and re-level the entire thing.
anyway... this has nearly nothing to do with the article so back to you, chuck :p
