Will of the Forsaken nerf is a reason for quitting

Reader Dave M. sent this little gag to us from Blizzard's "Account Cancel" page. He was leaving the game (and frankly, we're sorry to see him go), and he noticed that if you choose "other" as the reason for leaving your account behind, you get another list of more wacky options. And among them (right between "All of my friends quit playing" and "Offline play not available") is that constant point of QQ: "Will of the Forsaken nerf."
Pretty funny that in terms of game mechanics, that's really the only listed reason for quitting ("it takes too long to move between regions" is in there as well, though it seems like a strange complaint that the game is too big). You'd think that the Ret Pally nerfs or Shaman QQ would at least be listed in there somewhere. But no, apparently for all the players that are saying "That's it, I quit" in response to nerfs, only the ones angry about the WotF nerf are actually doing it.

"Shaman QQ"
QQ over what? being too powerfull? Last nights raid on Naxx all Shamans held top DPS spots above, Mages, Warlocks, and Rogues.
Drow Dec 4th 2008 5:02PM
@2 LOL! That made me actually chuckle at work, stop!
Mages and Warlocks...the tank out DPS's them now haha!

As a die-hard shaman, now leveling my second after the initial trek through wrath on my main... I'm gonna have to agree shammys are downright awesome right now in raiding. PvP... well, not so happy there... but for raiding and PvE, I'm all about the shammy. Enhancement spec, for PvE, I can grind all day and night and never stop to drink or eat... :D (well except in RL of course)
Reylen Dec 5th 2008 10:19AM
But what if you don't want to be specced in enhancement? Sure shamans are fine healers for raids, but other than that....

"it takes too long to move between regions" is not a ridiculous complaint, as anyone that has ever played FFXI can easily tell you. WoW movement times can be a little long (depending on where you are going), but they aren't that bad. I'm kinda surprised they haven't sped up Gryphons or expanded the teleport system.
Kakistocracy Dec 4th 2008 3:40PM
Yeah, I wish they gave mages ports like the mages in Warcraft three had, being able to port to any friendly building would be nice.
Oneiroi Dec 4th 2008 6:17PM
I think it is bad. It's annoying to have to juggle hearthstones and workarounds to get back and forth between azeroth/northrend/outlands. And some of the flight times are still a bit ridiculous.
Well hopefully scrolls will help some. They should really make some teleport scrolls now.

Ultima Online had it down right.
Someone need to petition for the "/KalOrtPor" command...

That's funny, but it does make me curious. What is the popular opinion now, how do you think Will of the Forsaken compares with the human racial Every Man for Himself?
Will of the Forsaken Racial
Instant 2 min cooldown
Removes any Charm, Fear and Sleep effect.
Every Man for Himself
Instant 2 min cooldown
Removes all movement impairing effects and all effects which cause loss of control of your character. This effect shares a cooldown with other similar effects.
The reason I think the comparison is valid is because humans have a lot more racials than undead, and the biggest racial for undead is WotF.

Human Everyman for himself, share a cooldown with BG tokens, witch made them wirthless to have. I dont think that the case for the will of the forsaken.
InnaJungleStylee Dec 4th 2008 5:35PM
@Markainion
I would be happy to have a free trinket slot during PvP as one of my racials, frankly. WOTF may not share a cooldown but it's also not as useful as EMFH.
I'd also LOVE Diplomacy. Too bad I play Horde. Que sera sera.
Lemons Dec 4th 2008 5:55PM
I'd take WotF over EMFH any day of the week. A quick wowhead search reveals that the freedom trinkets are the only trinkets in the game that carry resil in any sizable quantity. If you're thinking that you're going to replace ur trinket because you have EMFH then you're losing 84 resil off the level 80 trinket. I, personally, equip the trinket just for the resil it gives.
Now if you're undead you have to equip the trinket (unless you eenjoy getting wtfpwned) and then you have another specialized trinket at your disposal.
The only way EMFH would be viable is if there was a trinket with 84 resil and then some sort of offensive stat, but at this point I just can't give up the resil to equip anything else.

WotF is nerfed... it's a FACT, there's no contending that. But the article is about the ludicrousness of leaving the game for that nerf alone when there's so many other nerfs and balancing issues abound everywhere.
Actually, regarding Forsaken racials... I was more pissed about the recent water breathing change. Any char I made that didn't have a way to breathe underwater, I picked Forsaken. Now that everyone can breath underwater for so long I'm pissed because I could have picked another race for other racials that are now a lot more useful than Forsaken.
Janaa Dec 4th 2008 11:06PM
@lars - I can't tell if you're kidding. You seriously pick a race based on the length of time that class can breathe underwater??? Seriously?? Of all the racials - that's the one that's important to you?
Over, for instance, how much dps it does, how much damage it can avoid, if it can get out of stuns, the weapon expertise bonus suiting the class, etc? I guarantee, you spend far less time underwater than stunned.. Unless you're doing something horribly wrong.
Just.. wow.

"'it takes too long to move between regions' is in there as well, though it seems like a strange complaint that the game is too big"
Mike, your logic train failed once again. Taking too long to move between regions is a complaint about not enough flight points or quicker, easier travel within and between regions. It doesn't mean that the game is too big for people.
jefeweiss Dec 4th 2008 3:28PM
It makes sense to me. Particularly among players who PvP, undead was the most frequently chosen race specifically for WotF. And unlike getting a spec nerfed, you can't exactly spec out of being undead. People who choose race based on lore, or who don't like undead because of the way they look may not understand the argument.
I think that part of the reason that class nerfs aren't listed is that typically they are nerfs to specific abilities that a class possesses. IMO, part of the reason that one class or another gets a rap for being "bad" in PvP is that players stick with specs that just aren't very good.
One example would be hunter's problems in the arenas. I did ok in arenas with a pretty unconventional spec that was designed to allow me to mitigate damage and have a greater amount of crowd control. I didn't put out nearly the amount of damage that hunters specced BM or deep marks did, but I had much better survival when being focused. I did wonder how much better the overall hunter numbers in the arena would have been if people had been willing to be more experimental with specs.
When Blizz makes changes to the placement and number of skills on a talent tree it offers free respecs, but again you can't change your race when your racial abilities get changed. I think that changes being made to racial abilities is the best argument for having a paid race change service.
