Ding! webcomic is looking for your stories

Webcomic artist Scott Kurtz, the guy behind PvP and (more importantly) Ding! has recently posted that he'll be changing the format of his World of Warcraft themed comic. Currently, Ding! follows the comical exploits of his fictional guild, Panda Attack, but as of now that's all going to be changing.Instead, Scott is looking to make his comic highlight the community, and be something of a community effort. He's looking for you, the players, to submit true stories about you and your guild. Has something hilarious or awesome (or hilariously awesome) happened to your crew recently? Submit it to Kurtz, and it just might be immortalized in Ding! If your story is featured in the comic, you'll be rewarded with an 11x17 print of the comic itself, which is pretty cool. It's always nice to have little memories of your guild in physical form like that. Typically you'd need to pay a decent amount of money for comissions from an artist as well known on the net as Kurtz, so that's a sweet little bonus beyond just having your story featured.
The full details on how to submit your story can be found on the PvPonline website, and I definitely recommend sending something in! If you or your guild gets featured, you should let us know, too! We'd love to hear about it, and it would probably be shown off on our site as well. That's two times the cool!

True story; my old GM Schmuckman of Destinys Bane, Skullcrusher, was awarded his new Warglaive back in the day, and it was like the third on the server or something, so he was very excited about getting it, and he wanted to destroy things so after the raid, we went to Gruuls. Sman (as he is often called) pulled agro and died to Gruul shortly after the pull.
Tier 4 content can destroy players who pull hate and die.
One of the best times ever.
Oh and they called me "Agro Puller" so it was kind of a win, since for once I wasn't the one greased over the deck.

typical of Kurtz, he starts a new project and realizes he doesn't have the time or attention span to see it through.
I figured it was a bad omen when he farmed out the artwork to Southworth (though, the benefit there is that the artwork has improved considerably).
But now Kurtz is turning to the community for ideas because he can't come up with his own anymore and can't back out of his arrangement with Crispy Gamer.

Yeah, that was pretty much the same thing I thought when I saw the announcement this morning on the PvPonline.com page.

The only part of your comment I wanted to address was that yeah, for a guy who doesn't play WoW Paul Southworth does some really nice WoW art. Effective but non-derivative, I've enjoyed his style since the old Krazy Larry days.

Actually for me, the first sign that Ding! was doomed was the incredibly pathetic update schedule. I mean, even now we're still lucky to get a strip a week. But for a while there, it was more like a strip every two weeks, with at one point, it went without and update for nearly a month.
THEN he farmed out to a new artist. And now he's basically farming out the writer inspiration. So... why exactly is his name on this strip, again?
I used to be a BIG PvP fan, but as the strip became more and more sitcom-ish, coming to rely on cheap-Skull knock-offs (Scratch Fury and that WC Fields charicature, i'm looking at you), I got sick of it. For a while, I'd hoped Ding! would be a return to the classic form for Kurtz but nope, this one is dying on the vine too.

Bite your tongue! I agree Ding! has been patchy, but it's been one of the few funny WoW comics out there. (As far as I'm concerned, it's Flintlocke, Hammer of Grammar, Ding! and Dark Legacy and that's IT.) And I totally approved of the shift in the art; freed up from doing the art himself, Kurtz seemed to lift his game in the writing department, going for more interesting long-form comics and setups.
I'll be intrigued to see how the Phables-esque experiment goes.

Even when Kurtz did farm Ding out, and then cut down to a five day update, none of extra time seemed to benefit the regular strip.
Now the thing plays out like some tired soap opera and is just as delayed as the bad-old days back when Kurtz had more on his plate. Getting the public to do his writing seems like just another pothole on the downward spiral.

The problem is of course things that are funny to a guild or some other group of people gaming together normally have the "you had to be there" element to them.

Just saying, Panda Attack isn't a fictional guild. It's a Horde guild on my server, Dark Iron-US, started by Kurtz himself. He's still the guild leader.

Not only does the guild exist, but the characters do too. All the characters in the strip aside from Kissybear are actual characters, and many of the strips come from their (our) exploits.

I'm in Panda Attack as well. Kurtz doesn't play much, but he is still the figurehead guild leader (the guild is actually run quite well by a large group of officers).

I'm waiting for the toon where I get invited to a BT raid when I log in from a hospital bed. That heart attack wasn't much of an excuse :)

I never got an answer from Scott, is the BE paladin Brent or one of the real Pandas? IFAIK the BE girl is Jade.
