WoW Moviewatch: A very Northrend christmas: Out in the cold
The holiday season is behind us, and we're pretty much done with the holiday movie extravaganza. However, I wanted to take one last moment and enjoy a beautiful piece by Legs, titled "A very northrend christmas: Out in the cold." I'm not sure how we missed it before now, but I didn't want to let it be ignored this year.
The music is gorgeous, of course. Compared to the more hard rock Christmas videos, Legs's piece really brings out the beauty and elegance of the holiday season. I like the way the young Orc child stares around with wonder, and the serenity displayed by the Blood Elf angel. The music is suitably haunting and harmonious, synching very well with the crystalline imagery of the video.
This is the last of the holiday videos for this season. But, like I said, I wanted to make sure Legs got her due, considering the beauty of this piece. Click here to see it yourself!

Sweet yet very sad. Very much like "The Little Match Girl".

This reminds me of the little match girl, which I hated.
I'm trying to enjoy my holiday and I got to think about orphan children welcoming death unknowlingly with a smile?
Aw man what a buzz kill!
What's the moral here for children? When life sucks, embrace life becuase you're going to get presents and a reindeer pet?
Sorry, i'm not feeling it.

You are the human turning the orphan away into the winter night.
You didn't get the moral, therefore, your buzz deserves to die.
(If it's *lucky* your buzz will get presents and get to hang out with woodland creatures and hot belves first...)
Happy Holidays!

sigh. this makes me wish that azeroth really had changing seasons. i'd love to see it SNOW and the ground and trees get white, and then return in the spring.
speaking of which... i haven't seen it rain in ages. is azeroth going through a drought??
Keyra Jan 9th 2009 7:12PM
It was raining in Splintertree Post (Ashenvale) last night for me, but that was the first time in a long while that I've seen it rain.

Dumb question, and slightly off-topic, but how are people making machinima videos these days when WoW Modelviewer is dead in the water? Has someone managed to hack an unofficial version that works?
Keyra Jan 8th 2009 11:52PM
There are a few people who have created a viewer that works with the new expansion "to a degree" - for the most part, people are doing a separate install and halting the updates before 3.0.2, then never playing that install and just using it for machinima.
Keyra Jan 9th 2009 7:14PM
Update: a separate install on either another computer or on a separate hard drive. I have WoW installed on an external drive since I do a lot of graphic and video editing on my main drive, so I shut it off so it wouldn't register the installation and installed WoW on my main drive, halting it before it started doing patch 3.0.2. I don't play this installation, I only play the one on my external drive. Hmm...I wonder if this might be why my frame rates stink? I might have to try the reverse.
Hope this helps!

Keyra, thank you for the helpful information. I was hoping that was a secret magic solution, but it looks like setting up a pre-3.0.2 install of WoW is the only real work around. Fingers-crossed that someday someone will get model viewer working again.
