Authentication issues tonight [Updated]

In the last fifteen minutes or so we've received numerous reports that authentication servers are down for North American realms. While the outage does not appear to be affecting anyone in game, those folks logging in will be stuck at "authenticating" for the time being.There has been no word from Blizzard about this, but if we've gotten a dozen tips about this in the past fifteen minutes, I'm sure they have too.
We'll update this post when we have more information.
Update #1: Speak of the devil, there's a blue post about this now.
Update #2: It appears the issue is now resolved.

Right now (11:30 pm est), the Authentication server isn't even activating. It immediately try's to connect, so it isn't authenticating your account.

That's not true. Blizzard would not bypass authentication all together. If that were the case, everyone could log into everyone else's account and hell would ensue.

@ Adam Holisky - No. Without the Authentication server everyone can attempt to log in, but it doesn't authenticate, so you don't get to the server.
When the Authentication server is down it sees the login attempts, but since it can't verify it is a game client attempting to log in it does not let you get any further.

It basically says they are aware of the issue and working on it.
They have no ETA like always. I can't post exact quote because I can't get it to load anymore.
The forums are unusable in times like this because everyone and his brother is trying to find out what's going on by checking the forums.

This sucks, I went afk to eat dinner, and without thinking I logged out. Now I can't get back in. What am I gonna do for the whole evening??

Ah good, I needed a reason to say why I hadn't logged in for a while. My guild will never know I'm trying out Warhammer!!
Which really hasn't appealed that much to me yet, but maybe I'll find a class that clicks with me.
