WoW Moviewatch: In For A Penny: Part Two "The Thorne of Rose Street"

Selserene actually released In For A Penny: Part Two "The Thorne of Rose Streeet" this past Friday. Since Moviewatch runs only during the week, we were faced with a dilemma. Do we feature this work immediately, to get the good news out to everyone as soon as possible? Or, wait until Monday, when the most readers would be available to see Selserene's movie? After enjoying the twenty minute installment, your intrepid Moviewatch team had their answer. We wanted to get it in front of as many people as possible. Everyone -- and I mean everyone -- should have the opportunity to see this series.
If you haven't seen In For A Penny's prologue or first chapter, you might want to take the time to do so. I'm not sure it's necessary, since there's enough thematic information in this episode that you get the gist of what's happening. The beauty of Selserene's noir piece is that the genre really informs the story. Selserene displays a love of the film noir genre, but not because of the black-and-white composition. A significant factor of the noir genre is the lack of "good guys." Relatively few of the protagonists are completely noble in their motivation, and Selserene's characters seem similarly complex.
And the mysterious Draenei woman? Totally for the win. I enjoy a lot of Selserene's imagery in this, even if I'm not a big blood elf fan. I think the luxury and decadence inherent in the scenery helps underscore some of IFAP's themes. (Corruption, evil, desperation -- yanno, noir stuff.)

I, too, am a little tired of the all the belfs in these vids, but... in all honesty, try to picture "In For a Penny" done with any other race. We all know what the other races' emotes look like, what their standard stances and movements are. The bottom line is that no other race could pull this movie off.
Just like the wildly popular "Ulduar" being done with Cranius as a belf DK, with his own human-self in a cameo role. That entire video couldn't be done with Alliance toons; the dance numbers alone would look ridiculous with the dances available to the Allies.
No, until Blizz gives us the dance studio they've been teasing us with, we'll be seeing lead roles played by belfs for a long time to come.

This pretty impressive as machinima goes. It looks good, sounds good, and hits the film noir genre spot on. Thumbs up!

@Glaras, I'd say that blood elves are all over machinima becuase people keep trying to tell their exspancive story but keep failing. But! Selserene has found the perfect way to protray this race, so just maybe, if we're lucky, after In for a penny is done blood elf machinima will be dead forever.

I've been waiting for Part 2 for a long time now, and I was mildly impressed once again by Selserene. She does a very good job portraying the characters, the voices fit rather well, and she's intrigued me further into the plot. (I'm rather curious if the cat has any purpose at all...)
Anyways, I can't wait for Part 3.

Maybe the cat is really the killer! Okay, no, no it's not.
But seriously, it's a way to transition some of the scenes (from the bar especially.) It's a character that can follow all the others around and bring the audience to them no matter which characters they are. The cat also let me break up the third scene a little with a little humor instead of just having shots between Thayle and Glimmy talking.
It's also a small remembrance of my cat, who died while I was writing the script.

Well it was a great idea to add the cat. :-) I was very amused with the hat, something my own cats would do. And I'm sorry to hear about your own cat. Can't wait til part 3. :-)

I've not even read the other comments yet. I've been begging this creator for a the sequel for a long time and THIS did went above and beyond my expectations.
This artist has only grown since the first installment of this show. Even though I've been tough on Belfs being the main chars in other works (esp Belf Rap) BUT this is so far beyond any such worries.
It is beautiful, unexpected and just plain WONDERFUL! I have no idea how this creator did 90% of what they did to change the very texture of WOW to make it tell this story.
