Celebrating a guild anniversary in style

Pink Pigtail Inn has what is probably the most involved guild anniversary I've ever seen. We've seen quite a few anniversaries and events come through Guildwatch, but this one takes the cake: a huge competitive scavenger hunt, complete with out-of-game clues, banned class abilities (so teams could be balanced out), and even self-made quests involving the guild's lore. It's probably rare to find a group of officers that can be this committed to something normally considered "an RP event," but obviously it worked out, because the whole guild really enjoyed it.The context Larisa puts this in, however, is even more interesting. According to the Daedalus Project (a series of surveys of MMO players -- we've mentioned their work before), the majority of players can't celebrate a guild's anniversary anyway, as they haven't been in their guilds for even a year yet. I've never considered it, but it's true: while we are very attached to our guildies when we do find a good guild, we aren't really attached to them for very long, relatively speaking. There are stories of guilds going on for decades, but even those guilds have players coming and going -- if your guild has the same group of people playing together for a few years, you're probably in a smaller group than you think. PPI's example is a great one for any guilds who have been around long enough to celebrate it.

They do have a tabard, but the website and gbank are both soon.
apparently they are looking for all levels with a view to end game raiding too.

My guild has been around since Beta, and I joined not long after that... There's only about 4 of us that still raid together - the rest come and go, with about 10 people who have been around for about 2 years.
I really enjoy reading about guilds who have as much fun as this =)

as our guild's so-called "social director", i tip my magey chapeau to Adrenaline for this. i can't even imagine the amount of thought and work that went into pulling this off. i have much to learn!

I feel so lucky to be part of a guild that recently celebrated it's third anniversary and has kept the same core membership and values all the while. The past two+ years I've spent among their ranks have been fantastic! Maybe I should plan something really epic for our next anniversary...

That's a quite impressive celebration - our guild is similar - we take a whole week off from raiding each year for our special Birthday week celebrations where there is a different event each night, culminating in a "big finale event" at the end of the week.

Given that an end-game raiding guild asks a lot of its members over the year, these sorts of events are generally seen as a nice reward and change of pace for a week. Everyone gets to have a blast, blow off some steam and just relax doing things we'd normally consider a bit dumb and stupid. It's all in a good cause!

the Order of Golden Fries guild on Moonrunner does an anniversary party every year, too. in the past we've done scavanger hunts, picnics, pet parades and "jump off the cliff onto the body of the GM" events (closest corpse wins).
fun stuff. if only we had a tabard...

I think we skipped one at the three year point because TBC made people kinda meh about server parties (boo on BT raids!). We had a decent turnout this year though for our fourth anniversary...I just gotta dig up the vid from my race (which took up most of the vid).
