Sam Raimi to direct WoW movie

Sam Raimi is set to direct the World of Warcraft movie.
This news is coming out right before the San Diego ComicCon, which begins this week. According to Ain't It Cool News, the story should be hitting the trades later this week or next (Trades are daily papers in Hollywood about the latest goings on, more business than gossip news).
Raimi is best known for directing all the recent Spiderman works and cult horror films. This likely means that a movie announcement is not far off – perhaps BlizzCon?
You can also check out what to expect from a World of Warcraft movie.
Edit: Schramm here. Adam wrote a great post, but he forgot the best three words of this news: Bruce Campbell cameo. There better be one.
Update: Blizzard has since confirmed this news with a press release, made very late in the evening Tuesday PDT. A couple hours after this story was posted...huh.

Only 2 questions remain:
Who are Ted Raimi and Bruce Campbell going to play?
I'm guessing snooty Blood Elves, myself.
Redwiggle Jul 22nd 2009 12:03AM
I would have guessed Dwarven Hunters, myself ..
"This is my BOOM-stick!"

Wait, nevermind.
Bruce Campbell plays Varian Wrynn!
I mean, C'mon, he has the chin already.

You know there will likely be a few other New Zealand regulars, as well... I'm thinking Lucy Lawless, Craig Parker, Karl Urban, Peter Mensah, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Marton Csokas, and/or Jay Laga'aia could at least have a cameo.
I was so glad to hear early on that Bliz gave Uwe Boll a "hell no" rather than just a "no," and I figure that anyone would be better than that guy, but Sam Raimi was actually one of my top picks. I'm so glad to hear that they got him!

Agreed...

Raimi must be Mograine, as he is the Ash bringer.

If Bruce Campbell plays Lothar in flashback, I will be in Heaven.
Also, I'd love to see Ted play what amounts to a Joxer cameo. :)

They're going to be a Dwarven Mortar Team. Of COURSE!

It's about time we were able to talk about what the Cataclysm trademark was for. It was positively hair-pulling not being able to mention it was a movie, not the expansion.
Spazmoose Jul 22nd 2009 2:35AM
Perhaps there will be a cameo by Vin Diesel as well
Brune Jul 22nd 2009 3:56AM
@nih:
The trademark was for games. You fail at rumour mongering and epeen boosting.
Sploof Jul 22nd 2009 5:56AM
Nih used to play on my server, don't mind him. He's a complete and utter fool.
Qot Jul 22nd 2009 9:47AM
Ted Raimi plays Hogger. Bruce Campbell plays Gamon. The internets explode.
Todd Jul 22nd 2009 10:26AM
Ted Raimi would play an undead rogue. Bruce Campbell can play all the parts... he's just that awesome.
Ghostcrawler and Tigole can be quest givers.
splodesondeath Jul 22nd 2009 11:41AM
Who's gonna play Vol'jin, Garrosh and Thrall?
You know they HAVE to be there.
Retron Jul 22nd 2009 12:01PM
The answer is obvious.
BRUCE CAMPBELL IS....ARTHAS!
Ted Raimi could probably play a mage like Rhonin maybe.
Retron Jul 22nd 2009 12:05PM
@splodesondeath
My guess is that Thrall will be 100% cg like a lot of characters, and will be voiced by Metzhen as he is in the games.
Tseran Jul 22nd 2009 6:36PM
Pshaw.....Bruce Campbell will be playing...
LEEEEEEEEROOOOOOY JENKINS!
rockooldude Jul 25th 2009 2:32PM
when is the movie goin to be out?
Porky Jul 28th 2009 4:08PM
You guys are all missing the obvious. Bruce can really only be Saurfang.
The awesome unleashed will be enough to make Azeroth one again. And kick every gnome in the face simultaneously. Twice.
