Realm Championships and a 2010 preview for the TCG

Additionally, the TCG folks have outlined their plans for 2010 over on their website, and it sounds like it'll be a busy year. They're kicking things off with the Scourgewar release, including the TCG loot of the mini-mounts (finally, a pony!), the Tuskarr Kite, and a Spectral Tiger Cub. And later in the year, you can look forward to a Naxxramas dungeon deck, another expansion called Wrathgate (with likely more in-game loot to go after), and finally, an Icecrown Citadel raid deck release. Should be an exciting 2010 for the trading card game -- we'll definitely be watching for that new expansion and the loot items due out with it.

are these cards actually worth buying? like i see the "rare" prize things every once and a while, but i never thought they actually got them from buying the card packs, like i thought they got them off of ebay or some other sites...
what im trying to get at, is that i'd like to get some of those prizes, but i have no clue on how "rare" they actually are, can anyone that knows about this stuff give some input please? i mean i have the money for it, so i can just go out to my walmart and buy a whole box of those cards, but only if i actually was going to get a "rare" item

Speaking from pure probability, it is always more cost effective to buy the loot on ebay or from another player than to buy packs. People tend to buy packs in hopes of loot for the same reason people play the lottery: they hope they can be the lucky one that hits the jackpot :).
I win loot all the time at TCG events and always sell the cards these days... I imagine most online loot you see is from similar transactions.

Like Tim has stated, if you are just looking for the loot cards, your wallet will be heavier if you just buy the loot cards off ebay or another site...
if you are looking to actually start playing as well, then go ahead and buy the booster boxes (you'll have a better chance with the boxes vs single foil/blister packs)
I myself buy packs randomly at target in hopes of some loots cards (pretty lucky so far) but then I also give the cards to my boyfriend to play and I have started to play myself.. Its fun if you go to the realms and play even for a complete n00b like myself!

Aww. No Ulduar raid deck? I was really curious to see how a fight like Vezax or Yogg would translate into the TCG.
Granted, it'll still be interesting to see how they do Grobby and Thaddeus.
