Normally we don't get too excited over updates to the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator, but reader
El Oreo brought the most recent update to our attention. Version 1.1.0 of
the iPhone version of the mobile authenticator contains the following updates:
- A new "Copy" feature lets you copy the currently displayed authentication code into your device's clipboard. You can then paste it into other text entry fields, such as when accessing Battle.net Account Management on Safari.
- Miscellaneous UI improvements.
Obviously that second note isn't all
that exciting, but I think the first one is worth mentioning. This is a feature users of the mobile authenticator have wanted for awhile, not just for Safari but also for Blizzard's other upcoming app. To be more specific,
the Auction House app that Blizzard has recently announced (which I hope and pray is as good as
Fallen Earth's mobile app). You'll need to log in to use it, so you'll most certainly need to use the authenticator that's on the exact same phone. Since the iPhone doesn't let you use two applications at the same time, this copy feature is going to be a welcome addition. Sure, you could just
remember what the generated code is, but this is 2010. Who remembers things anymore? I have computers for that.

So is it the case that I need to remove the authenticator from the account before updating? It's such a pain in the butt. I would love to be able to just update my authenticator software on the fly.

No, you can update your authenticator withouth removing it from your Battle.net account. I have done this few hours ago on a european account with no troubles. After update, the authenticator gave me a code just as usual.

From what I remember from upgrading last time you don't need to, but I'd check first before upgrading.

So entering about 6 codes email/password/some clicking a few things is a pain in the butt? I hate to see what happens when you have to type a paragraph.

Just updated over WiFi, no problems at all. Got a warning message (new) on first start that operating the authenticator on a Jailbroken device may compromise the security, unsure if thats new to this version or simply because I recently have jailbroken my iPhone.

I would do the whole process - disconnect, update, reconnect. It's 10 extra minutes that'll prevent a 30 minute call to Blizz if anything goes wrong. Better save then listening to hold music.

The only time you need to 'remove' the authenticator from your Bnet account is if you're updating the iPhone/iPod operating system, not for authenticator updates.

Interesting. It warns you that a "jailbroken iPhone may compromise teh authenticators security" when you start it now.

Yeah, not suprising, with this change it could be possible for a compromised iphone to text a fresh authenticator code somewhere every 30 seconds...

It is strange, it tells me the same thing but mine is not jailbroken. I do some app development so I have a provisioning license installed. Maybe thats it?

It's just warning everybody. My phone is neither jailbroken nor provisioned, and I too got the message. I think it may just be informational. "Thinking about or already jailbreaking? Think about THIS!"

Meh, like anything you just have to think before you install something. Mine is jailbroken, but I only have an app or two and they are legit.

These comments keep reminding me why I use the Keyfob, I don't have to worry about remove to upgrade, what happens if my phone has to be re-set or anything of the like. I keep the Keyfob attached to my Tower and I'm all set

Actually now the iphones can simulate multiprocess, with the combination of backgrounder and proswitcher, i can have ebuddy, authenticator at the same time
