In May, the company announced that their 2018 insurance premium rates would rise an average of 43%, but due to uncertainty over government subsidy payments, they have asked to raise silver plan premiums by 57%.
Medica is currently the only option for their 14,000 Iowa clients to get subsidized payments for individual insurance.
The company blames the Trump administration for the fare hike, citing the lack of commitment to paying the cost sharing reductions, which help to cover co-pays and deductibles for lower income Americans.
A Medica spokesperson said, "We remain hopeful the federal government will fund the cost sharing reductions, but we are working with the Iowa Insurance Division to help consumers understand the implications of this lack of funding."

Donald J. TrumpRepublicans should just REPEAL failing ObamaCare now & work on a new Healthcare Plan that will start from a clean slate. Dems will join in!
Donald J. TrumpWe were let down by all of the Democrats and a few Republicans. Most Republicans were loyal, terrific & worked really hard. We will return!
Donald J. TrumpAs I have always said, let ObamaCare fail and then come together and do a great healthcare plan. Stay tuned!
Donald J. TrumpWith only a very small majority, the Republicans in the House & Senate need more victories next year since Dems totally obstruct, no votes!
Donald J. TrumpThe Senate must go to a 51 vote majority instead of current 60 votes. Even parts of full Repeal need 60. 8 Dems control Senate. Crazy!
