Actress Rebel Wilson has been awarded £2.7million (AU$4.5million) damages after winning a defamation case.

The film star successfully sued Bauer Media in her native Australia after claiming a series of articles had falsely portrayed her as a 'liar'.

The 37-year-old claimed the articles had led her to be fired from two movies.

Wilson offered to settle before the court case for AU$200,000, but sought AU$7million during the trial.

Justice John Dixon said: "Substantial vindication can only be achieved by an award of damages that underscores that Ms Wilson's reputation as an actress of integrity was wrongly damaged in a manner that affected her marketability in a huge worldwide marketplace."
