[1.Local]: The dead ponies edition

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week.

Some readers will undoubtedly consider a discussion of Alizee and the female Night Elf dance to be beating a dead horse – but that's not actually the topic that the title of this week's [1.Local] is referring to. The dead ponies come later. (Didn't Mama always tell you to save the sweet treats for last? Mmmm, crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle ...) This week, we start out with one lucky reader's story of the Night Elf dance -- wedding style.

Mike: My wife (who plays Warcraft quite a bit) learned this dance (the one in the video) so she could dance like this at our wedding. So we gave Alizee's music to the DJ, had him play it, and she danced like a Night Elf in front of everyone she's ever known. The neat part was that all her friends liked the dance style, so she was out there on the dance floor teaching all these other women how to dance like Alizee. My friends (who also play Warcraft) and I stood watching with our jaws on the floor. If you think one chick is hot while dancing like this, you should see five or six ...

DM7000: You're a lucky man ...

Tirrimas: Where would you like your Internet sent?

Mickthathick: Pics plx!

Sounds like a celebration to remember. Come on, Mike, we're all friends here – pics, please? Tips line, Attention: [1.Local] ...

[1.Local]: Dumber than a box of nails

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week.

When Entertainment Weekly chatted with Ryan Reynolds about his "Must List", the X-Men: Wolverine actor had nothing but scorn at the possibility of his having a favorite video game. "I don't really play videogames," he told EW. "Is there a way to waste more f-ing time?"

"He's probably just grumpy because the cover made him look dumber than a box of nails," commented WoW.com reader Gessilea. "Come on, that expression totally screams 'Which end do I put this in again?'"

We suspect Reynolds may have just finished reading the comments at WoW.com – whewww, what a fractious lot this week! Join us in picking a few nuggets out of the rubble and wrap up with a couple of latecomers to last week's epic rap battle comments war.

[1.Local]: The epic rap battle comment war edition

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week.

Wild applause! Mad QQing! The floodgates of Patch 3.2 information have opened, and the comments here at WoW.com reflect it. As much as we love a good debate, [1.Local] will be steering clear of the 3.2 threads -- after all, nothing's set in stone yet, and all the hue and cry begins to sound tiresomely similar after the third or forth topic.

Instead, let's start off this week's [1.Local] with a much more novel (and entertaining) method of presenting (and settling) differences of opinion: a comments rap battle.

Ahhh, Sunday -- what's known around our place as "the day of extras": extra sleep, extra housework (blarrrg), extra mileage on the jogging trail, extra errands in game (going fishing in hopes of catching up with Mr. Pinchy, anyone?). If you're pining for some WoW love this weekend yet find yourself stuck outside of the game, don't feel as if you're all on your lonesome. Join the WoW crowd on Twitter. Most of the WoW.com team is there, plus a wider community of WoW players from all over the world. It's addictive – come follow the latest scuttle and see for yourself.

More of the latest scuttle, of course, from other WoW.com readers, after the break.

[1.Local]: Shoved into the deep end

Yeah, we know you've already got Algalon on farm -- WoW.com readers are just uber that way. But for the rare handful of you still playing at a somewhat less stratospheric progression point ... How about those patches? Is the flow of new content keeping pace with your playstyle and interest?

"The pace of new content is fine – ooh, shiny :)," wrote Julie. "What worries me is the rate at which old content becomes obsolete (which is way too fast). For example, I'm glad Ulduar and Emalon are out. I hate the fact you can't do Archavon without doing Emalon. I also hate the fact that there's no reason to go into Naxx (Pro-Drake, badges, etc.) or heroic five-mans, for that matter. Basically I'm ok with the new content coming out; not ok with being forced to move to the new content the moment it does, however. There should be some balanced incentives to keep doing older content."

Is your guild working patiently through the existing content at its own rate, or has the addition of new content shoved you out into the deep end before you were ready?

[1.Local]: The Failoc-alypse edition

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week.

I titled this week's [1.Local] on Saturday, in a fit of frustration. At the time, it seemed more than appropriate: "BlizzCon ticket status" (sold out) was still at the top of the WoW.com posts, the comments were seething with queue rage, and I was still smarting from an epic fail at click-refresh for the concert tickets I really, really wanted to score for my vacation week this summer. Gah.

But things are looking up. As it turns out, a lot of folks had a fair bit of fun playing Blizzard's Failoc-alypse game while they sat in the ticket queue. (Give it a try; it's kinda fun, actually.) And speaking of queues, just as I sat down to pop [1.Local] into the post queue, I decided to hit Ticketmaster one last time – and voila! Two seats at a great price, lusciously close to the stage. Take that, Failoc!

[1.Local]: Making ourselves at home

Welcome home to WoW.com. Moving into a new place can be hectic, but we think our new digs at WoW.com are pretty darn comfy. In addition to a fresh face and identity for WoW Insider, we've introduced the beta launch of WoW.com Profiles. Show off your characters with a profile on WoW.com. By downloading the WoW.com addon, you can also keep all of your friends up to date on what you're doing in game, and make blog posts and upload screenshots directly from your game client.

Not a big fan of the social media scene? You don't have to change a thing – WoW.com offers all the old content you know (and hopefully love) so well. "If I'm being honest, when I first saw that the site had changed, I didn't really 'feel it,'" commented reader Retropally. "After days of it sinking in, I'm loving it. The new theme is awesome -- and really, nothing has changed in the way of the posts that are written ..."

Join the [1.Local] gang and add your thoughts about our new look and social features -- and hop on across the fold to see what else readers were chatting about during the past week.

[1.Local]: Questions, answers from our readers

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week.

The comments section is usually a cacophony of voices seeking to agree or disagree with the main post, discredit previous commentors or make some pointless point ("first" -- /facepalm). This week, readers pulled together in a more truly interactive relationship, offering up questions, tips, insights and well thought-out suggestions and ideas. Take a trip through the pickings this week on ways to make professions more interesting, more Star Trek Easter eggs, getting real about DPS, copyright issues, snappier headlines ... and even a post devoted exclusively to guild and player recruitment notices.

[1.Local]: To agree, to disagree, or to agree to disagree

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week.

Flamers and trolls aside, WoW Insider readers are generally a contentious lot. Their viewpoints are as divergent as the player demographics the site attracts – all types of players, from the casual to the hardcore. With this many angles to consider, WoW Insider becomes a melting pot of ideas and opinions, from the sublime to the ridiculous. (And let's face it – some of the so-called ridiculous ideas are the most entertaining to read.)

Yet this week, readers seemed to be more often of one mind than not – whether that agreement was ultimately to agree over the topic at hand or to agree to disagree. [1.Local] highlights several reader conversations that made the radar this week.

[1.Local]: The theory, debate, controversy and scandal edition

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week.

The [1.Local] PuG was in rare form this week, postulating theories and pontificating on issues ranging from the Martin Fury scandal to whether or not Ulduar difficulty and loot is on target. We highlight not one but two in-depth posts on the lore behind the Horde/Alliance relationship, each with extensive reader reaction.

This edition of [1.Local] also spotlights fresh reaction from Karatechop, the player at the epicenter of the Martin Fury brouhaha. What does he think about all the hullabaloo over his banning in the wake of his use of a GM-only item that came into the hands of a guildmate? Karatechop responds to the pages of comments on our exclusive interview with him about the incident. All this and more, after the break.

[1.Local]: Spring chatter in the air

Dislocated but not disconnected
Lileya of Lightbringer-EU, the subject of this week's 15 Minutes of Fame, has a rare, lifelong condition that can make even the simplest tasks impossible (let alone healing an endgame raid). From her ankles to her knees, from her fingers to her shoulders, Lileya's joints dislocate at the drop of a pin.

The first installment of our interview with Lileya inspired an outpouring of support from readers. "im on lightbringer (eu) as well," wrote Lynxx. "if your ever lookin for a group then just ask any1 in Misery. Your story touched me but im rly struggling to put into words what i want to say, but your story touches me =). Craig"

You may have been struggling for words, Craig, but I think Lileya and the rest of our readers got the point quite clearly. Well said, friend.

[1.Local]: Patch week patter

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past.

Patch madness
Patch 3.1 went in; stable servers went out. Were you one of the players who shrugged and pushed back from the keyboard to enjoy some spring weather, or did connectivity issues leave you steaming?

Some readers ranted that $15 a month should provide smooth, uninterrupted service. Others felt that at something like 50 cents a day, they were getting a reasonable value.

"Interesting comments on the worth of WoW," observed Jalindrine. "The 50-cents-a-day logic, though, is obviously flawed. The question isn't 'Can I afford to spend 50 cents a day on a product?', but 'How many products/services can I afford to buy at 50 cents (more or less) a day?' Every so often, WoW's the one not worth it, which is much harder to realize when you're literally addicted."

Sounds like time for a sweep underneath the couch cushions ...

[1.Local]: From Esperanto into Farsi and back again

Observations from running a Naxx-25 PuG
"Our readers are a bunch of smartasses, but oh, how I love them," cried Allison Robert after receiving this e-mail (no, technically not a [1.Local] reader comment) addressing point #2 of her "Observations from running a Naxx-25 PuG":

2. Trying to explain Heigan to new raiders apparently sounds like you're reciting The Decameron as translated from Esperanto into Farsi and back again.

"So why wouldn't one just use the normal 1995 translation of the Decameron from Italian to Esperanto, instead of stupidly going through Farsi?!" wrote mankso.

"Giovanni Boccaccio: Dekamerono, unuaj tri tagoj. El la itala tradukis Giulio Cappa, Perla Martinelli kaj Gaston Waringhien. Eld. Kooperativo de Literatura Foiro, Prilly, 1995. 320 pagoj kudre binditaj. ISBN 3-906595-10-2. Prezo ce FEL: 1380 BEF

"Little wonder you couldn't explain Heigan! ;-)"

Nerd.

Four-Stat Plate Gear
Reader Jaxtrasi was moved by Warrior columnist Matthew Rossi's take on the leather vs. plate issue – so moved, in fact, that he shared a little song he wrote.

"I wrote a song about this a few months ago," he offered. "No, really. It's not a rickroll. It's a song about Warrior gear."

"Four-Stat Plate Gear" ... Hmm, it does have a certain ring to it ...

[1.Local]: And that's not all these clams do

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week.

Just when you thought clams couldn't get any better ...
Maybe it's hearing the same news tips over and over again ("Hey man, just saw this really cool vid you should totally post called BLIND ...") that makes WI bloggers a little slap-happy. Or maybe it's ... something else?

"Maybe I'm just way too easy to amuse and/or way too in love with Vince Offer," asserted Daniel Whitcomb, "but this made me lawl." This one's for you, Daniel, from reader Cyno01:

"Hi, Vince here for ClamWoW. Just when you thought clams couldn't get any more convenient, these clams do it all. You can open them while mounted or even when you're not. How great is that? And that's not all -- these clams stack! And even if that's not enough, the meat inside stacks itself! You're gonna love my clams."

Sounds like this is one schtik that's stacked, for sure.
