WoW.Com Help: How to use the WoW.com add-on
WoW.com's addon and accompanying application is one of the key ways that the site allows you to document your gameplay on your profile. Our blogs allow you to say whatever's on your mind, but our addon let's you show the world what you've been up to in the game. Use it to keep your friends up to date, or document your travels for yourself. From your profile, you will see in the upper right corner, "Get the Add-On".
Not sure if you want the add-on? Check out our Add-On About Page to learn more about what our add-on does, security issues, and whether or not it is right for you.
Installation

If the installer worked properly, it will be in your World of Warcraft AddOns folder just like any other addon you might use. If you want to make sure the installer did its job, you can either check that folder or simply look at your addon list in the game itself. It should appear in the list as you see above.
If it's not there, try restarting the game and check again. If it's still not there, try to reinstall it. If you continue to have problems, let us know.
Using the Addon: Adding your Authentication Key
Once you're in the game, open up your interface options, click on the AddOns tab, and choose the WoW Insider addon from the list. The first thing you'll need to do is enter your unique authentication key where indicated.
You'll find this in your user settings on the WoW.com website. You do have an account with us, right? Once you are logged in, you can find your AddOn authentication key in your User Settings which can be accessed from the yellow arrow drop down menu next to your profile pic in the upper right hand of the screen.
You'll need to repeat that step with each of the characters you'll be tracking and reporting. It's a bit tedious to go through them all, but in a perfect world, you'll only need to do it once.
There are certain things that the addon will track automatically, such as your spells and talents. However, there's a variety of things that you decide whether you want them tracked and displayed on your WoW.com profile or not. Those are the items above with a checkbox beside them, and they're all pretty straightforward. We'll go through them anyway, just in case.
Simply type /note and a dialogue box will open up for you and allow you to make quick blog posts from within the game itself. These are called Adventurer's Notes. Remember, you won't be able to post these until you've logged off of the game and run the WoW Insider app to upload your data, so if you want to get something posted to your blog or feed right away, you might want to go do it from the website as you play.
There are always things you might want to write down for later, though. Reminders to yourself, little anecdotes, things that aren't terribly urgent but you want to say anyway. Adventurer's Notes are great for that. The interface for taking these notes isn't going to offer all of the bells and whistles of our web-based blog editor, so treat it more like a Twitter and less like a Blogspot.
If you want to keep your WoW.com profile up to date, you'll want to upload your tracked data after every play session. Heck, if you're the obsessive type, maybe more than once per play session. To upload your data, you need to log out of the game and run the WoW Insider app that you downloaded along with the AddOn.
Run the app, and you'll probably notice that your account names appear there automatically. Don't worry, we didn't use black magic to acquire that information, and you're not sending us anything that will compromise the security of your account(s). The account names are taken from your WTF folder, which is where the tracked data is being stored.
Choose the account you were just playing on, and hit Submit My Data. If you entered your authentication key correctly on each of the characters you played that play session, everything should upload automatically. Note that it may take a few minutes to parse and upload all of your data, so be patient!
If you run into any problems with the WoW Insider/WoW.com addon or app, please let us know and we'll try to help.
Using the Addon: Adding your Authentication Key
You'll find this in your user settings on the WoW.com website. You do have an account with us, right? Once you are logged in, you can find your AddOn authentication key in your User Settings which can be accessed from the yellow arrow drop down menu next to your profile pic in the upper right hand of the screen.

Tracking

- Leveling Data: When you level, the addon will make a note of it and it will appear in your feed when you run the WoW Insider app.
- Guild Join/Leave Data: Hopefully you won't need this very much! The addon will make a note of when you join a new guild, or leave your old one. Maybe you want the world to see that you were accepted into that big raiding guild you were trying out for?
- Zoning Data: You might have noticed that this is the only option unchecked in the picture above. There is a reason for that. Sending zoning data to your feed can turn your feed into a spamfest very, very quickly. In a night of play, how many times do you change zones? It's probably a lot, and is that information important to those reading your feed? Unlikely! If you're leveling a character and want to track your progress, this might be something you want to use. If you're level 80 and spend your days looping Northrend doing daily quests, consider turning it off.
- Achievement Data: Again, when you earn achievements, the addon will make a note of it.
- Raid Group Data: This works just like the Guild Join/Leave Data, except for raid groups. Are you in a progression raiding group, and want to note your raids in your feed? This will do that for you automatically.
- Questing Data: Each and every time you complete a quest, the addon will make a note of it. Be warned, this is another one of those things that can get needlessly spammy at level 80. It's fun to track your questing data while you're leveling, but once you're 80 you might want to just turn it off, depending on your play style. The world probably doesn't need to see all of your dailies.
