Drama Mamas: Suicide threats {WoW}

Mar 19th 2010 12:15PM Pud: That is an excellent, somewhat mature, and workable response. We will all be happy then.

Might I add that you chose your name well.

Drama Mamas: Suicide threats {WoW}

Mar 19th 2010 12:08PM Way to not read.

Next time you decide to spout something off on a writer, read the effing article all the way through first.

Because if you had, you would not have called her out for not knowing what mental illness is like (she's bipolar and says so) and you would not have told her she has no idea what it is like (read the part about the cats).

Drama Mamas: Suicide threats {WoW}

Mar 19th 2010 11:57AM I'd like to go on the record: "Bravo for being this brave."

This subject is not an easy one, it is not a popular one, and it is one that is obviously very personal to Robin. It could not have been easy to write simply because the amount of self-analysis required to be that frank and honest bothers most people.

Robin I want to thank you for letting us see a glimpse of you that most people would cover up at all cost. I'll be keeping this bookmarked, just in case I need it (again) and dreading the day that I do.

Oh, I'd also like to thank your cats. I'm glad they needed you.

Drama Mamas: Suicide threats {WoW}

Mar 19th 2010 11:48AM This column is about dealing with the social aspect of WoW.

They have tackled things like horrible players being attached to great ones, bad officer decisions or lack thereof, how to get someone to work on their character to squeeze out more DPS, and how to leave a guild without burning bridges.

NONE of those is a particularly big part of WoW. They are all about people.

So if you have not posted an objection prior to this one in any of those posts, why is suicide suddenly a major issue?

Western society as a whole tries to hide suicide behind a wall of shame and doesn't address it head on. The act IS a selfish one, the act happens a lot more often than it should and the reasons for this are many and varied. When someone asks for help, we tend to freak out because we don't know what to do, because this is not discussed enough. Here we have some people willing to help others know good info and what do you do? You complain.

If you are going to complain about a serious social issue in a column that specifically made to deal with the darker side of the social aspect of this game, you are going to have a lot of people tell you that you need to stfu and gtfo. This is the perfect place for this info and has helped at least 1 person.

As a GM I have had to deal with this twice. I COULD NOT just vanish. So I had to work out a way to let the person know that if they weren't going to seek help they were going to have problems talking with me about things. This article would have helped some as a few items I had not thought of.

The good news is that both of the individuals involved are doing a lot better and are still with us. Armed with this info I am going to try a different tack next time and hopefully it will be better for all involved.

The Daily Quest: For the newbies {WoW}

Mar 19th 2010 9:19AM Oh and I just watched the shaman "gameplay video"

49 seconds into the video: Shaman at full health, has riptide ticking on them and earth shield on, and then a Fury Warrior notices them.
Shaman at 59 seconds into video "You have died. Do you want to release to the nearest graveyard?"

Well, at least it was accurate...

The Daily Quest: For the newbies {WoW}

Mar 19th 2010 9:11AM Have to agree with all the above.

It talks about mana but never explains what the deal is there or why a rogue and warrior are special in not using mana. The rune commentary is clunky. The shaman comments might as well not be there. "Two forms of DPS." Be nice if they told people what that meant. The lack of comments on Moonkin was bad, and the paladin comment doesn't even really touch on the fact that they are the premier tank healers and excellent tanks.

The Daily Blues {WoW}

Mar 19th 2010 12:54AM It's not even a ret nerf.

People are bitching over tankadins being too good ON TRASH and Heroics.

Because we all know that everyone cares about trash more than the boss.

What gets me is that warriors are doing the lion's share of it. Once upon a time I used to tank all the trash and hold on to everything while the warrior in our guild held on to the worst of them. Then for the boss I was either DPS or add duty. I know several guilds where this is the case. Blizzard even says that warriors are the most common main tank. So they want to nerf the spot tankadins excel at because seal of cleave and HoR work too well together on trash? yeesh.

When my wife's bear isn't tanking ALL of a heroic with the swipe key taped down they can tell me tankadins are too good at trash.

Breafast Topic: Do you use all available buffs when pugging? {WoW}

Mar 18th 2010 8:46AM Remember someone getting a 2 minute blessing and they just laughed about it?
"Thanks for helping with my next mob. Well somewhat..." ;)

Breafast Topic: Do you use all available buffs when pugging? {WoW}

Mar 18th 2010 8:44AM I'm going to be using sanctuary. I need it to regen mana.
Since I am hitting the pally power icon anyway, why not hit the other icons up there and give the healer more mana (kings) and the DPS more pewpew or mana?

I like having fort, usually not needed, but can help a ton for that freshly dinged 80 still wearing a level 76 quest blue trying to stay alive.

Other buffs are fine, and I don't NEED a feast, really. But I see no reason to be cheap with reagents. I go through stacks in a raid, why would I care about a few more in a 5 man?

Breakfast Topic: Fear is the mind-killer {WoW}

Mar 16th 2010 9:22AM I spent 2 hours in shadow labs trying to get my key for Kara.
Hardest damn instance ever, pre-nerf. Especially when you tried dragging an enhance shaman through. That 1 less CC was stupidly painful.
