Ghostcrawler -- Warrior AoE Tanking
I don't think warriors need more sustained AE threat. You have Incite + Deep Wounds for Thunderclap and also Shockwave. Maintaining threat is supposed to take some effort. I don't think tanking would be anymore fun if you hit Tclap and never had to hit a button again.

The actual problem, in our minds, is threat scaling. Warriors (and all tanks) could AE tank just fine in Naxxramas.* It only became a problem overtime when the dps of the dps classes grew so much more quickly than the tanks, largely because the dps classes have so many dps stats on their gear while plate tanks have Strength. Tank damage was pretty close to 50% of dps damage in the first tier of content, which was our goal, but has slipped to 25 to 30% of dps (your mileage may vary) in Icecrown.

We need a system that keeps tank damage scaling at the same rate as dps damage. However, that system can't be dependent on gear stats (unless you're willing to see tank gear go away) and isn't as ridiculous as deep talents that say "You get 5 AP per point of Strength."

I think you just notice threat issues more on AE pulls because things like Tricks and Misdirect mask any problems on single target pulls. Separate problem.

And yes Paladin tank AE damage and threat generation is still too high, largely because of Seals and HoR, but long-term we're going to nerf that instead of making all tanks able to trivially maintain threat in all situations. Referencing the other thread on the threat a little, why as a tank would you even care what buttons you push if maintaining threat is a foregone conclusion?

* - AE tanking was fine in Naxxramas. AE damage was, and has remained, over the top. We prefer a model where the risk of tanking too many mobs is that the tank dies, not that you can't maintain threat on them all (within reasonable limits of course). We also prefer a model where the dps do AE damage on some pulls and switch to single target dps on others.

Eyonix -- Cataclysm Quests
When Cataclysm hits, the questing experience from 1-60 will be greatly improved. How we viewed questing when initially developing the game has changed drastically in numerous ways. A couple things to remember, the original design had only 100 horde quests, 100 alliance quests and 100 neutral quests planned for the whole game.

We started seeing people report being out of quests as a bug during the earliest phases of internal alpha testing, and revaluated how questing would fit into World of Warcraft. Also, we started questing early when only a few zones existed, so that's why some areas seem to send players from zone to zone more than others.

Zarhym -- Battleground experience in patch 3.3.3
There is a change going into patch 3.3.3 that will double the amount of Honor gained for completing objectives in Battlegrounds. Because experience gains directly correlate to the amount of Honor gained for completing such objectives, the change would double the amount of experience gained. While we do want to double the Honor gained to make obtaining PvP gear through Battlegrounds more on par with the rate at which players can obtain PvE gear via the Dungeon Finder, we are happy with the current experience gain rate and do not want it to change. For this reason we're decreasing the experience awarded by 50%. The net result is the same.

As an example, here are some made up numbers for completing a Battleground objective:

Current - 300 Honor, 500 experience

Increase Honor gains by 100% in 3.3.3 - 600 Honor, 1000 experience

Decrease experience gains by 50% in 3.3.3 - 600 Honor, 500 experience

Nethaera -- WSG experts: we want your tactics!
The industrious gnomes and goblins at World of Warcraft: Official Magazine are currently working on issue two. One of its regular features is "Battlegrounds Back to Basics" - this time around covering Warsong Gulch.

As part of that feature, we're looking for hints and tips from WSG veterans. Is that you? If so, please feel free to post your favorite Warsong Gulch one-line strategies, tactics and tricks that help give you the winning edge. They can either be team oriented, or even class specific. The best suggestions will be incorporated into the feature as quotes - and of course your character will be fully credited. Remember – these should be straightforward one-liners – we're not looking for long paragraphs packed with intricate details.

Thanks in advance to all!

Patch 3.3.3 PTR: Zarhym clarifies new holiday boss mechanics

So one of the new changes coming in Patch 3.3.3 is that one will be able queue up using the dungeon finder in order to fight world event bosses such as the Crown Chemical Trio or the Headless Horseman. However, the actual extent of the changes is a bit more involved, as Zarhym clarified in a recent forums post. Here's the rundown:

Healing's evolution in Cataclysm

Ghostcrawler, when not directly occupied with the pack of idiots harassing him on the Damage Dealing forums, stopped by the Healing forums this past month to share some information on how healing is likely to change in Cataclysm. Of particular interest is Blizzard's changing design philosophy with respect to what makes healing challenging. Right now tank avoidance is so high that, as GC's previously observed, bosses have to hit like a freight train in order to pose any threat to tank survivability at all. Between that and what's universally acknowledged as the "never running OOM" ethos of Wrath, the unfortunate effect has been healers spamming their largest heals on anyone within range.

The model that Blizzard's looking to move towards is getting a test run of sorts in Icecrown Citadel -- lower tank avoidance, bosses hitting for more reasonable amounts, and -- in Cataclysm -- higher health overall. In other words, we'll be healing for roughly the same amount we're healing now through less damage that nonetheless occurs more frequently. This will lead to a greater risk of running OOM as the encounter progresses if you dump a ton of mana on damage that should have been healed more efficiently. Even now, there are encounters like hard-mode Vezax where you do have to do this, which I thought made for a pretty interesting fight.

Friday Night Gin: Your weekly Blue roundup

Good evening fine ladies and good gentlemen, I want to invite you to head over to your liquor cabinet, grab some of that fine gin and do with it what you will. I like mine without anything added, right at room temperature. Ghostcrawler prefers his with coffee. Once you're settled, come back to your computer and read up on the best of the blues and the ghostly-crab-crawler.

Welcome to a new weekly column here at WoW.com. Each week we'll take a look at what Ghostcrawler and his cohorts at Blizzard have said about the game, highlighting all the important announcements and discussions.

What Ghostcrawler says in particular is of great importance these days to WoW. A lot of the stuff he's talking about is reflective of the direction of the entire design team at WoW, and if you follow what he's saying you'll have a better understanding of where the game is headed.

So after the break we'll wrap up what Ghostcrawler and the other blues had to say this week. This week's topic include: Battleground Focus, 5 Second Rule, On Class Representation Versus Actual Power, Going to heckle at BlizzCon?, Water Dungeon, Affliction Changes, Console WoW, Truth In Developer "Promises" About Change & An Angry Community, Amount Of Leveling, Phasing Technology, and Flying In Old Azeroth.
