Breakfast Topic: What is your favorite holiday?

The Feast of Winter Veil is nice and Brewfest is fun (though a disappointment over last year's), but my favorite holiday this year in Azeroth is Hallow's End. The Midsummer Fire Festival is a close second, mind you. It was fun and profitable. But Hallow's End has better lore and better accessories.

Sure, I love my dancing flames chickie, but my Rickety Magic Broom is the best thing ever -- and it's only temporary. The masks, the candy, the pumpkin heads -- it's just fun.

Breakfast Topic: What was your least favorite part of this year's Brewfest?

Brewfest had many things going for it and was still fun this year, but I can't help feeling a bit disappointed when I compare it to last year's event. Yeah, the boss was cool. Sure, it was nice that the Dark Iron Dwarves worked this year. But I missed the Pink Elekk quest (though they were still visible if you were in the right place with the right amount of inebriation) and the Wolpertinger quest (buying it just isn't the same).

After the first couple of days, I was completely unable to complete the Dark Iron Dwarf quest, even at peak times on my server. I don't know if fewer people were participating due to the mounts not being purchaseable by tokens or the non-intuitive way you fight those evil brew thieves, but there were never enough people chugging and chucking along with me to defeat them. Still, that wasn't my least favorite part.

I would have to say that the part of this year's Brewfest that sucked my fun, frustrated the heck out of me and made me only earn enough to join the Brew of the Month Club was the same thing I disliked most last year. It's that apple barrel that is near the guy with the kegs outside of Orgrimmar. No matter how diligent I was doing the Keg Run, no matter how carefully I timed my rein-clicking and no matter how much I jumped on, stomped on or ran around that barrel, it only refreshed my mount about 70 percent of the time. Riding an exhausted ram is so not fun.

Breakfast Topic: The last week of Brewfest

Yes, counting today, there are just five more chances for you to down Coren Direbrew during the Brewfest holiday, so if you haven't gotten lucky and gotten a mount yet, better keep trying. And if you haven't started collecting tickets coins, better get to it -- odds are that you're out of luck for getting the ~550 you need for everything, but you can probably still get at least 200 to join the Brew of the Month club.

Don't know how to drop Coren or do a keg run? We've got you covered on both. Personally, I got everything I needed (picked up two epics from Coren and joined the BotM club) save for the mounts, but those are so rare (and finding a group as DPS is so tough on my server) that I'm probably not going to bother. Fortunately, I'm looking forward to that other popular holiday that is just around the corner...

How you doing on Brewfest? Finished early or just now realizing that the holiday ends on Saturday? Downed Coren every single day with no mount to show for it, or went in there once and are now riding around on a kodo?

WoW Insider Show back live tomorrow

Ok, people, it's time to get back on track. After a short vacation last week (we had to go prerecorded), the show is back live tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm Eastern, and after a few week's absence, the inimitable Turpster is returning to the virtual airwaves with us. Amanda Dean will also be on, and planned topics of discussion include that whole Honor wipe deal (which some players aren't happy about), the ongoing Brewfest holiday (how are your tickets coming), and anything else new in the beta we'd like to talk about.

Additionally, thanks to listener Spacenerd, we'll have a giveaway -- if you want to pick up some extra special loot, make sure to tune into WoW Radio tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm Eastern to listen to how it all will go down. And we'll be in IRC live as well, at irc.mmoirc.com in the #wowradio channel. Finally, if you'd like to email us questions, concerns, words or praise or just something silly, feel free: the email address is theshow@wow.com.

Should be a great show tomorrow -- it'll be nice to get back into the vibe of things (and finally talk to Turpster again after so long), not to mention have a nice chat with all the IRC folks as well. Even if you've never heard the show live before, tomorrow would be a great day to listen in.

WoW, Casually: Get thee to Brewfest!

Robin Torres writes WoW, Casually for the player who has limited playtime.

Brewfest is here and unless you are opposed to virtual beer-related events, you should get down to Ironforge or Orgrimmar and join the fun. It isn't as casual-friendly as the Midsummer Fire Festival, but it's a blast and every activity can be done by a player with very little playtime, even the boss: Coren Direbrew.

Unlike the Fire Festival, you don't get experience by the fistfuls for levelers or cash rewards to fill your coffers, but there is the Brew of the Month Club and, seriously, how can you resist that? There will be Achievements awarded for obtaining many of the Brewfest goodies, including drinking every beer you get in the club, so belly up to the bar and start Chugging and Chucking.

Join us after the break for some tips and tricks to get the most out of your Brewfest experience.

Planning for the Brewmaster title in advance

A lot of people are understandably upset that the Brewfest mounts are now boss drops instead of buyable items. I've heard from no small number of folks who saved their Brewfest tickets from last year's event in order to purchase the mount with less hassle this year, only to discover that -- oops -- that wasn't in the cards. One particularly irate guildie logged off to go enjoy a mini-Brewfest of her own courtesy of the fridge after discovering that the ingame version wasn't going to cough up a ram.

The new boss, Coren Direbrew, is pretty cool and I'm happy to see older content being made relevant again (especially when it's an instance as cool as BRD), but as far as I can tell from the forums and various data sites, the drop rate on the mounts is...less than spectacular. I'm seeing estimates that range from as little as 1% to as much as 15%. Blue poster Kisirani pops up to say it's "much, much easier" to get a Brewfest mount drop than it was to get the Sinister Squashling off the Headless Horseman. Wowhead lists the Squashling as a 2% drop, so maybe the 15% figure for the Brewfest mounts is more accurate.

The mount might be a crapshoot, but you can cover the other bases on an upcoming Achievement and title by planning ahead:

The Brewfest wrap-up question

The festive tents are coming down. The Pink Elekks are fading away. The Wolpertingers are are scurrying back to their hutch in Wolpertingerland. What? You've never heard of Wolpertinger- land? Trust me, you are noy prepared.

Of course, neither was Blizzard. Nothing could prepare them for the combination of enthusiasm and technical glitches that made the inaugural Brewfest event something of a bugfest. But for the love of schnitzel and parading through Ogrimmar as a Tauren on a Riding Ram (so, so wrong) players dove in to the Daily Quests, both steins at the ready.

But with Brewfest winding down today we figured it was time to count your tickets and see if that Pony Keg will be making an appearance at the next Gruul wipe. I bring you, the question of the day:

Did you get what you wanted from Brewfest?

Let us know what you accomplished and what got left behind like a bad hangover. I, for one, know that I shall never remove from my memory the site of a Blood Elf in Brewfest Regalia. How about you?

WoW Insider's Brewfest Giveaway!

It's Brewfest time-- the Dwarves of Azeroth are completely soused (oh no wait, that's every week), and we're also partaking in the drinking activities here at WoW Insider-- don't worry, we're all above 21. Well, level 21 anyway.

The crew at DC Unlimited also want to join the fun, and they've sent us this terrific Thargas Anvilmar, one of their Warcraft action figures, to give to one of you lucky readers. He's a striking Dwarf Warrior wielding a mean two hander and wearing a full set of Tier 5. It's the perfect piece to add to your Warcraft toy-- whoops, excuse me-- collectible collection. And it's not even set to be released until October 24th, so you get a chance to win it early!

To enter, just throw a comment on this post by Friday, October 12th, telling us what your favorite drink is for Brewfest. It doesn't have to be an alcohol of some kind-- tea is brewed, but then again, only sissy-pants High Elves drink tea. Whatever your drink is, put it in a comment on this post (one comment per reader, US only-- sorry, we've got to ship it to you, age 18 and up), and we'll choose one randomly on Friday to win this great toy-- sorry again, Action Figure. The comment must be left by Friday at 3pm EST. You can enter only once and only one winner will be selected randomly to win the figure (valued at $30). Official rules are here. Good luck!

Update: Time's up! Check your email if you entered-- we're choosing one comment randomly to win the figure.

Dark Iron attacks finished for the year

It's sad, but true -- the Dark Iron Dwarf attacks that I certainly considered to be the most entertaining aspect of this year's Brewfest event are gone for the duration of the holiday. CM Vaneras tells us the bad news:

They have successfully been driven back for the remainder of this year's Brewfest holiday, but we've intercepted communique being transferred within their spy network, and they are recouping their losses with plans to return next year with an even greater presence.

However, the rest of the Brewfest celebrations are continuing until next Tuesday -- with barking quests and keg delivery quests, you still have a chance get enough tickets to win fabulous prizes.

Is Brewfest easier for Alliance?

Yozozo claims on the forums that he is able to complete 17 keg runs for the Alliance version of the There and Back again quest for Brewfest and is backed up by others who say they complete an average 15 keg runs per attempt. On the Horde side, 11 to 13 seems to be the average for the high achievers.

I've run the quest on both factions, and it does seem easier on the Alliance side even though the Horde version has more apple barrels. Is it shorter? Is there a better time bonus? Are the goblins wearing Dwarf masks a handicap? Or is it just perception?

I definitely think the Barker quests are easier on the Alliance side. The Ironforge course is in a complete circle without any backtracking and you can jump down the mountain a bit to cut the circuit short at the end. You have to backtrack a little in Orgrimmar and there is no shortcut to the Horde quest-givers.

What is your opinion? Is there an Alliance bias for the Brewfest quests or are the Horde just worse at motivating Rams?

WoW Moviewatch: A new take on the Karazhan chess event

Who out there isn't enjoying some of the Brewfest events right now? In addition to the simple pleasure of free booze, the Brewfest offers some interesting rewards -- one of which, the beer goggles, is showcased above. However, in this case I really feel like the Horde have the short end of the stick. If you play Horde and put on your beer goggles, everyone turns into an Orc. If you play Alliance and put on your beer goggles, everyone turns into a Gnome. And though the above video is amusing, I can only think of how more amusing it would have been with a more Gnomish theme.

Brewfest screenshots without that hangover

Haven't made it to all the Brewfest Beer Gardens yet? Can't find the Pink Elekk's and the dreaded Wolpertinger? Woken up in a stranger's capital city with no pants and no recollection of the last 24 hours? Have no fear. The WoW Insider team has done all that for you. And we took pictures!

From Riding Rams to Tauren Beer Maidens, we've got screenshots of all the major attractions of this short-lived seasonal event celebrating, um, imaginary creatures and overindulgence, really. Best part: no Brewfest tickets required!

Brewfest update: Barker quests fixed... mostly

The Barker quests for the Brewfest are fixed for almost everyone at this point. Unfortunately, some people are still unable to get credit when riding near flags and Blizzard is looking into it. Blizzard CM Drysc and Event Developer Kisirani have been giving updates for fixing the Bugfest.

If you are still having trouble with a Barker quest, here is some info for making sure it's not you:
  • You can only do one Barker quest a day. Double check your Daily Quest total in your Quest Log to make sure you haven't already completed it.
  • There are two competitors vying for your barking prowess, but once you work for one brewer, the other won't offer you the quest until the next day.
  • If you failed it, you can abandon the quest and try again.
  • You have to be on your Rental Ram when going past the flags or else you will not get credit. Once you get all four flags, however, you can use your mount to race back to the brewer.
More Brewfest updates after the jump...

Brewfest is still a bugfest

Brewfest makes me ker-razy!Brewfest bugs continue to infest the live servers. Despite a rolling restart of all the realms this morning, the Barker quest is still bugged on many servers. Blizzard is aware and is currently trying to unravel the latest mystery glitch.

Blizzard was increasing the ticket reward for the Barker quest to make up for disabling the Dark Iron attack quest. If they can't get the Barker quest to work properly, they are going to have to think of another plan. There is only a limited amount of time to gather tickets for players who want the permanent rewards. CM Aeus on the European servers nixed the idea of the event getting extended.

Oceanic realms are also having Brewfest problems of their own. Because the servers are hosted in a different time zone, the Brewfest events didn't go live at midnight, but many hours later. Blizzard is aware of the time discrepancy problem and is looking into ways to avoid it in the future.

For players who intend to do the Barker quest when it is working, Blizzard has pointed out that /waving and /yelling are not necessary. You simply need to get close enough to the flags while on the Riding Ram. The quest updates using waypoint triggers, not emotes.

One bit of good news: the always excellent WoW Wiki has a page up on Brewfest listing quests, rewards, etc. This may help answer many questions players have such as, can I get the Ram quest before L40? (No.)
