Earlier this month, an interview was conducted with Jeff Kaplan by Phil Kollar of Game Informer where they talked shop about World of Warcraft. One of the items that piqued my interest was that a new cutscene was being included in patch 3.3. I'm sure we can guess that it has something to do with Icecrown Citadel (and Arthas).
Looking for something to tide you over until the servers turn on with patch 3.3 active? How about a tour through the frigid domain of the Lich King?
The sights and sounds of Icecrown Citadel's three-winged five-man dungeon, the Frozen Halls, come to life in Kinaesthesia's fantastic trailer. Kinaesthesia is a member of <vodka>, the well-known high-end raiding guild, and their videos are known for their professional quality. This one is no exception. In fact, In lieu of an official trailer for Patch 3.3, this is probably the best way to get yourself psyched for tomorrow's patch.
The video contains numerous spoilers and should, like any other spoiler-filled material, be avoided if you want your experience to be pure as driven Icecrown snow. But if you want a great-looking and exhaustive trailer? This just might be for you.
The Cataclysm cinematic, as first shown this afternoon at the BlizzCon 2009 opening ceremonies, is pretty darn epic (as all of Blizz's cinematics have been, really). If you haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet, fear not - there are options. You can watch it embedded above in this post, or you can head on over to Blizzard's official site and watch it streaming or download a high-quality version.
And you definitely should watch it if you haven't yet. There's a ton of good information right here on WoW.com, but a video is worth quite a lot of words. There's even a gnome in this one! (A priest, near the end.) Not to mention goblins, which I hear are the new gnomes. I am incredibly excited.
A lot of people were wondering if there was going to be an official Blizzard trailer for World of Warcraft's Patch 3.2, Call of the Crusade, and lo' and behold, there is! Just not out in its usual promptness.
The trailer itself is made up of mostly in-game footage of the various events in the new dungeon, the Argent Tournament. We see some boss fights in the coliseum raid, a few overviews of the tournament grounds, etc... The new Battleground, the Isle of Conquest, is also featured in the trailer, and there are some good shots of PvP going on there.
There isn't really any lore or story to it - other than that the Argent Tournament is preparing us for Icecrown Citadel. Nothing we don't already know. You can get a cool desktop background though.
You can watch the trailer above on YouTube or head over to the Blizzard site and download it in super high def.
Tipster "Snark" sent me a note about the Trev and Eroth Episode I Trailer by Fudgewartz. The full movie is due out very soon, so we'll know pretty quick whether this trailer will turn into the promised series, or just fizzle out.
I couldn't quite make out the premise of the story, but it clearly involves at least one or two gnomes. Therefore, I hope it turns out to be awesome. The voice acting sounded fun, but the dialogue was definitely a little muddled. The author said that some of pre-production work wasn't quite finished, so hopefully that's one of the things that improves before the final release.
The series is expected to have six main installments, with a few scattered "shorts" after its conclusion. Here's hoping it turns out well! I can't guess what's up with the Terminator head, though.

Selserene tipped me off to this really cool little video. This is the Avenger trailer by Dtbn. The full movie is probably going to be released sometime in late summer, and is described by the author as being "action packed."
I love to see action-oriented machinima, and if this trailer is any kind of indication, I think Dtbn will be able to deliver. I think it does a great job of setting up quick pathos for the main character, and then conveys stylized, interesting conflict. The use of bullet-time slow-motion and dynamic framing makes the action compelling and interesting, even if we know most of the character movements are based on in-game emotes.
While it is a trailer, and not all trailers turn into full movies, I hope Dtbn follows through. It looks promising, and I'm excited for it.

It's been a little while since we've had a guild recruitment video on Moviewatch, so I was pretty happy to get a note from Horror. He told us about the Scytheguard Recruitment Video, which he'd built for his Forsaken-only roleplay guild on Sentinels.
The video's got a few good ideas behind it, and has a few things that could be improved. First, I liked Horror's idea for a voice-over. Since his guild is exclusively for the undead, starting off with that nightmarish "you can't breathe anymore" idea is a great start to roleplay. That being said, I think the opening went a little longer than needed. Anyone checking out a trailer needs fast-paced action, or they'll wander off.
I think showing snippets of Northrend is also a good idea. There's enough random footage of gameplay out there that you want your prospective recruit to know you're progressing, and enjoying current content. Otherwise, they may assume your guild's just a few friends who threw a Fraps up on YouTube. (And while there's nothing wrong with that, it might get in the way of recruitment.)
Now, this was Horror's first and only video so far, so I can see why he's using an unregistered Fraps. But if he does more videos, he should go ahead and grab the registered version, and get the watermark off the top of his video. The video looks neat, but the watermark's a little distracting.

Guild promos can be tricky things. They serve a few different purposes. Some, like yesterday's Das Strafgericht, celebrate things that a guild has already done together. Others, however, like today's Beyond Godlike, is a teaser for the future. It's meant to inspire the guild, and help prepare them for what they will be doing together.
The author, Draix, dropped me a note about the Beyond Godlike trailer, asking if I had some tips. That's a little tough, because a good movie review has to be focused on the purpose of the movie. If the purpose of this piece was to be a music video, I'd be forced to say it fails. But, if I guess correctly that the trailer is meant to rile up his Guild for what's coming when 3.1 drops, I'd say the video is outstanding already.
I love the character tableaus. While they're not riddled with character depth, they clearly indicate a sense of purpose and action. The way Draix frames each model sets up a sense of purpose and action. The sweeping score he chose builds a sense of excitement. The hints of Ulduar shown in the architecture he displays warms us to the subject. He's done a good job building a feeling of adventure.
If there were an area I'd like to see Draix develop, I guess it would have to be in providing his trailer a narrative focus. His character shots, like I said, definitely hint at purpose and action, but I'd like to see some context. Is the paladin fighting undead for personal reasons (angst? tragedy?), or is he just knocking out a daily? A little more information about what's going on would be nice, but I still like the feeling that this is a "gathering of heroes."

With the release of Wrath of the Lich King and its inclusion of world-changing phased events, Blizzard's stated goal of ramping up their dynamic storytelling seems more and more like a success, but it doesn't stop with quests alone. The in-game cinematic for the final legs of the epic Wrath Gate quest line really shows what Blizzard is capable of outside of CGI with the in-game engine and a bit of creative tinkering. Not to mention it's a huge lore explosion that fuels the story for the rest of the expansion!
Yes, yes, oldnews for some. For those of you among us who haven't yet experienced this particular quest line, of course, it's not to be missed. For those who've seen it in-game already or who just can't contain themselves, though, you can stream theincredibly spoiler-heavy cinematic in full HD on Blizzard's site now or download it directly from BigDownload. If you're into it, there's also a nice short story/summary of the momentous events directly under it.
We can hope for two things--that Blizzard continues to put these kinds of awesome scenes in the game, and that when they do, they give those of us with nice monitors/TVs the ability to watch them all pretty-like.
When we sought constructive feedback for WoWBeef, Episode 1, for Mindblade Studios, we weren't sure what reaction to expect. The machinima missed the mark in most ways. However, it looks like he took the criticism and worked on what was lacking.
His latest trailer, for his upcoming series, The Night Watchmen, seems to advertise the movie without giving everything away. While it does follow the typical storyline of spousal murder and revenge, we're hoping that he attempts to keep things interesting within the format. Given that this is an episodic adventure, they're constantly on the lookout for voice actors. If you would like to participate, send an email to jljeremiah AT gmail DOT com!
Let the lore geeks at WoW Insider help you out a bit. We've put together a scene by scene analysis of the lore behind the Fury of the Sunwell trailer, and we're presenting it to you here. Hopefully, it sheds some more light on this whole "Did Kael'thas go crazy or didn't he, and what is up with Kil'jaedan anyway?" thing.
If PETA were in WoW, they wouldn't be pleased with Nav. He just finished his first ever machinima, a teaser for his upcoming series, The Last Hunt. The video follows a boy who aspires to become a hunter and be one with nature.
The reception on Warcraftmovies was fairly good, but I'd have to agree with the commenters about the voice acting. Not only did the dialogue feel forced, but some sentences actually made no sense! However, we have to give Nav major kudos for putting himself out there. This blogger can't wait to see the series!
There are few trailers that leave me anxious to see the final result. However, Kilh is a genius. From the beginning to the end, this trailer is just full of brilliance. If you can believe it, this was his first work using Adobe After Effects! You can read about his movie progress on his blog.
I asked Kilh what the machinima would be about, and his description left me scratching my head. Apparently the Rock 'n' Troll plot involves a banker that dreams of being a rockstar whose raptor is stolen by evil murlocs that plan to brainwash the world. Did I mention the superevil mini-zombie-tauren minions? He's going for the cheesy 80s B-movie look and feel. I can't wait!
The Sunwell Plateau trailer, released by Blizzard, has to be on the coolest trailers I've seen from them recently. If you have a second, turn the sound up a bit and have a look. You can watch the trailer right above via a YouTube hosted copy of the video, or head on over to the Blizzard page about Patch 2.4 and watch it there.
I give the people who made this an A+ for the day.
Of course, this will all be made even better when patch 2.4 actually does drop, and we're hopeful that it'll come next week. Today wasn't the day for it, unfortunately, despite some teasing remarks made by blue posters yesterday.
(Warning: If you haven't seen Tales of the Past III, this video could be considered a spoiler. Approach with caution.)
They say that imitation is the best form of flattery. I hope Martin Falch takes that to heart when he sees this nearly three minute cinematic cut of his movie. DragonstarDT took all of the exciting bits about TotP3 and put them to music, creating a short video that gives you a vague idea of what the movie is about. With over 750,000 downloads of the actual machinima, it certainly needs no trailer boost. However, if you haven't seen it yet, this trailer might entice you to give it a watch!
