Frequently Asked Questions

What are baby registry must-haves for a first-time parent?

Some baby registry must-haves that you'll want are a comfortable and safe crib, a stroller that fits your lifestyle, a car seat, a breast pump and bottles. Diapers, wipes and diaper rash cream are also must-haves for any new parent. Other items to consider adding to your registry include a baby carrier, a baby monitor, a changing table and a high chair.

Does Babylist's checklist sync with my baby registry?

Yes! Your checklist is connected to your baby registry. As you add items to your registry we’ll automatically update your progress so you can stay organized and keep track of what you need. You can also use the printable PDF checklist to manually keep track of what’s on your registry.

Can I transfer my baby registry from another store?

Yes! Maybe you already started a registry at Amazon or Target and just discovered Babylist—no need to worry. You can easily import everything you've already added at another store to your Babylist registry. As a bonus, your baby registry checklist will automatically reflect what you've already added!

What gear should I register for?

If you’re looking for ideas for what to put on your registry, you’ve come to the right place. If you’re a first-time mom, check out our guide for building a baby registry. It includes everything about what to add and why, FAQs and how to build a registry with items you’ll actually use. If you’re figuring out what to put on your registry for baby number two, we’ve got suggestions for that, too!

What sleep products do I need?

You never really know what's going to help baby sleep better and longer, but some top baby registry items include a safe sleep space, blackout shades, comfy footies, and a soft swaddle. Tech gear–humidifiers, monitors and sound machines to name a few—is also helpful for creating nighttime and naptime routines. And don’t forget a bedtime story or two.

How much clothing should I register for?

When you’re deciding how many baby clothes you need for your new arrival, you’ll want to find the balance between having enough for every outfit change and not overdoing it with too many things they’re grow out of quickly. We suggest about 7 bodysuits or rompers, 3-5 pairs of pants, 4 sleepers, footies and gowns, and 2 sweaters or sweatshirts for winter months. When it comes to accessories, you’ll want socks, hats and a handful of swaddle blankets.

How long will my baby wear newborn sizes?

Clothing is among the top baby registry items. Most newborn sizes top out around eight pounds, so if you have a bigger baby, they may need 0-3 months sizes from the start. (And if they’re on the smaller side, odds are they’ll only fit into newborn sizes for a few weeks anyway.) Pick a few newborn items and then focus on 0-3 months since those clothes will fit babies up to around 12 or 13 pounds.

What diapering supplies do I need?

Wipes, diapers and diaper creams are the most essential items you’ll need when it’s diaper-changing time. Take our baby registry quiz to get personalized recommendations for what to add to your registry for diapering, sleeping and everything in between!

What feeding supplies do I need?

Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping or bottle feeding, a wide range of products are available to support you. Nipple creams for soreness, breast pads for leakage and nursing pillows are essentials for breastfeeding. Bottles offer a variety of options but we’ve rounded up the best ones for you here. And our list of the best baby formulas are a must-read whether you're supplementing or using it full-time.

What first aid and medicine do I need?

We’ve got plenty of ideas to help you put together a baby first aid kit. You could build your own (here’s a great list of what to include in a DIY Baby First Aid Kit), or you could save time and choose a kit instead. The Babylist First Aid Kit was created with pediatric ER doctors, with hospital-grade medical supplies and soothers you’ll want for baby’s first year, including a nasal bulb, baby nail clippers, a thermometer and more, plus info on infant/toddler CPR, fever/medication dosing chart, red flags to call 9-1-1 or go to the ER, and step-by-step instructions written by emergency doctors.
