CHAM PVA-Permanent Inability to Work Document
The CHAM PVA spouse has to meet the
following standard(s) to be listed as an eligible spouse for CHAM PVA:
must be receiving disability compensation from the VA, or
has an earnings record in which payments or allowances that are:
are based on service-connected disability or the combined effects of service-
connected disability and any additional service-
connected limitation(s), and do not exceed the maximum allowable amount
or are based on service-connected disability but does not involve more than 50
months' continuous service, and do not extend beyond the period of enrollment in a program of the VA or
performed or supervised community service or the equivalent.
The CHAM PVA spouse is not eligible if he/she was granted a full disability claim.
Note: CHAM PVA eligibility is limited to spouses of military veterans who:
were enrolled in any part of Active Duty or Reservist and are unable to return
to work after discharge, or are unable to work because they are
disabled by service-connected disabilities, or have died from any cause while performing
service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
CHAM PVA — Full Retirement Amount Document
A full disability claim is awarded to a spouse or widow who meets the following standards:
will receive payments or allowances that may exceed a total amount of: (a) the basic life
insurance amount (BLIND), whichever is greater,
(b) 40% of the veteran's current retired pay or basic
life insurance amount, whichever is greater, or (c) the combined amount of the
basic life insurance amount of the spouse and the spouse's current
retired pay; or (d) 100% of the VA maximum annual
retirement amount to which a disabled veteran's earnings would otherwise
be subject.
The total amount of the payments or allowances to which the spouse or widow could be
assessed if eligible under this program does not exceed 100% of the VA
maximum annual retirement amount to which a disabled veteran's earnings would
otherwise be subject.
