Donate today and give more pets a second chance at happiness

Scared, alone and vulnerable. Nellie was abandoned outside our centre in the middle of the night. She ran around helplessly looking for someone to help her.

Can you give more pets like Nellie the care they so desperately need?

Sadly, we're seeing nearly 50% more strays as the cost of living crisis continues. Your gift can provide vulnerable pets with urgent care, food and safety.

£

£45 could cover the cost to feed six dogs like Nellie for one week.

£

£8 a month could help provide a full vet's medical examination for a pet in need.

Nellie needed a safe place to be

Poor Nellie was incredibly stressed and almost frozen with fear. It took our team lots of patience to coax her out from a hiding place in the dark wooded area next to our entrance. We took her into our kennels where she was finally safe again. As Nellie was so worried at first, we made sure her kennel was in a quiet location. We stayed with her for some time – giving her all the fuss and attention she deserved.

Sadly, this is the devastating reality for many homeless pets coming into our care. As sky-high living costs continue to make life harder, we’ve seen a 130% surge in owners contacting us to relinquish their pets, and a staggering 253% increase in pets given up for financial reasons.

Once Nellie was safe and settled in her kennel, our team gave her a thorough check-up. We could tell she had given birth recently, but we had no way of knowing what happened to her puppies. We also found that she had red, irritated patches on her skin and her eye was sore and weeping. After gentle cleaning with medicated wipes, anti-bacterial shampoo and eye drops, both healed quickly.

Our expert teams were concerned that she was having trouble with pain and lameness in her legs. An x-ray showed us that Nellie’s elbow joint had a large gap in it, which was likely causing her a lot of discomfort. With pain relief and rest, Nellie’s leg healed and soon she was back on her paws.

As well as medical attention, we also gave Nellie lots of love and care to help her recover emotionally from her traumatic experience. We filled her kennel with comfy bedding and toys to create a safe space for this sensitive sweetheart, as well as giving her activity feeders to keep her calm. We were delighted when she started to come out of her shell and soon became firm friends with her main handlers.

Help more vulnerable pets like Nellie

Little more than a week after stepping through our doors Nellie went to live as a temporary guest with one of our staff fosterers. This lovely girl blossomed and her confidence went from strength to strength.

And, just five days later, she found her happy ending with new owner Alex. Your gift today will provide the vital and life-saving medical care vulnerable pets so desperately need. Supporters like you make extraordinary things possible for pets every day.
