What educators are saying

I now have story of the month for every grade level that they are available in! I use them for my micro school, and the stories are so engaging and the kids really like them! I cannot wait until fifth grade options possibly come out
I love how comprehensive this resource is. I had plenty to teach and implement, and I love that I had a great overview of the skills that the units would cover. I purchased the products for sixth and seventh grade because I loved this one so much.

    Description

8th Grade Short Stories & Common Core Aligned Units for the 8th Grade Short Story of the Month Club

Grab this collection of popular short story units tailored for Grade 8! I am creating these units specifically around the CCSS for grade 8, but they can absolutely be used in grades 6-10 - please check the preview file to verify this. Try the first month (August!) free! Click here.

This listing is for the Short Story of the Month Club, Grade 8. Although this was previously a growing bundle, it is now complete. ALL components are now available for download.

With this purchase, you will receive a new short story unit every month that is tailored to meet Common Core Standards in YOUR specific grade. This purchase includes nine months of short stories, from August-May (no story in December). A TEKS alignment is also included with each unit.

Every unit is just as jam-packed and rigorous as the Monkey’s Paw Unit for August, including essential questions that tie together paired texts (included or access provided) across genres and types, close reading with annotation guides, mini-lessons for relevant concepts and skills, comprehension quizzes and tests, vocabulary guides, discussion questions, questions that require text evidence, and tons more. Each unit includes lesson plans and activities that span 8-10 days of 60 minute classes.

These nine units comfortably cover ALL Reading Literature Common Core Standards for Grade 8, address many Reading Informational Text Standards for Grade 8, plus additional standards in Writing, Language, and Speaking and Listening. Each unit includes at least one paired text, likely a related nonfiction selection or poem with analysis. Also included are a comprehensive pre-assessment (beginning of the year placement exam), midterm, and final exam for you that covers the content and skills you've taught as part of this bundle.

*EDITABLE* I have added my own original files in PowerPoint format for you to edit if you wish for your own classroom use. This only includes story-specific printables and I can't guarantee your ability to edit them based on your computer's settings and your tech knowledge. Bonus activities that have been included here as a courtesy to you (like interactive notebook lessons) will not include the editable versions - those are only available in the original resources.
