Features
Overview: The PSB M4U 8 MKII wireless active noise cancelling headphones are the "new and improved" follow-up to 2018's original award-winning M4U 8. The "Mark II" features an improved battery for longer listening between charges, and the latest in Active Noise Cancelling technology. The M4U 8 MKII introduces Audiodo™ Personal Sound to tailor the headphones to your own personal hearing. The headphones come with an audio cable, 3.5mm-to-1/4" and airline adapters, a USB charging cable, and a zippered hard storage case.
Materials: The M4U 8 MKIIs feature comfortable leatherette ear pads and headband with memory foam padding. The 40mm drivers drivers are housed in a closed ABS/polycarbonate enclosure. The spring steel headband expands to keep the headphones securely on your head with just the right amount of pressure. The ear cups have a gyro-action suspension for ultimate comfort and to help shape the headphones to your head for an airtight seal. The headphones and accessories can be stored in the supplied zippered EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) case when not in use.
Bluetooth Features: The wireless M4U 8 MKII supports AAC and aptX HD codecs. aptX HD delivers 24-bit wireless HD audio over Bluetooth with up to 48kHz sampling for high fidelity sound. The headphones also support NFC (Near Field Communication) for easily pairing your headphones to your NFC-enabled device by touching the device to the N-mark, located just above the right ear cup.
Personal Sound by Audiodo: The new Personal Sound feature by Audiodo can personalize your headphones to your own hearing, creating a unique sound profile just for you. Using the PSB Headphones app, a series of hearing tests determines your ability to hear low, mid, and high tones in each ear. With this data, a personal sound profile is created to balance out anomalies in your sound perception and hearing abilities to best help you enjoy the PSB Signature Sound through the M4U 8 MKII headphones. Multiple Personal Sound profiles can be saved in the app for different members of the family.
Active Noise Cancelling: PSB's Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) utilizes four adaptive microphones to pick up ambient noise from all sides and send it to the internal headphone amplifier. The amplifier inverts the audio signal to cancel out the noise, so all you hear is your music. While in ANC mode, you can engage the Active Monitor (by pressing the volume button), which reduces your current audio track by 30dB to enable you to hear your surroundings. The surrounding audio will be amplified through the headphones, so you can carry on a conversation without removing your headphones.
Active/Passive Modes: The M4U 8 MKII has both Active and Passive Modes. In Active Mode, the internal headphone amplifier is active. In Passive Mode, the internal amplifier is turned off, and Active Noise Cancelling is not available. You will need to plug the headphones into the audio source via the included 3.5mm audio cable.
RoomFeel: PSB's exclusive RoomFeel technology makes the headphones sound as if you are listening to your music in a room on high-quality speakers instead of headphones. RoomFeel adds the clarity and energy produced by a listening room, giving you the sensation of being surrounded by the music. This "room gain" adds more realism to your listening experience, making it sound more like a live performance.
PSB Headphones App: The PSB Headphones app helps you enjoy your PSB Bluetooth headphones to the fullest extent. The app contains the Personal Sound by Audiodo solution for adapting the headphones to your personal hearing. The Personal Sound feature contains a step-by-step guided hearing test to see at what frequencies your hearing deficits and anomalies lie. A Personal Sound profile is created just for you to help you enjoy listening to your music through the headphones. The app also keeps you up-to-date on battery status and current codec, and alerts you when a software update is available. The PSB Headphones app is compatible with Android phones and tablets running Android 6.0 and up, and with iPhone and iPad with iOS 13.0 or later.
Onboard Controls: The right ear cup has the following controls:
- Bluetooth: The Bluetooth button puts the headphones into pairing mode for wirelessly connecting to your device.
- Volume: The volume control is a 3-way lever for turning volume up or down. Pressing the button activates the Active Monitor (Transparency Mode).
- ANC/Active Mode: This 3-way slide switch lets you select ANC (active noise cancelling and internal amplifier), Active Mode (using the internal amplifier without ANC), and Passive Mode. In Passive Mode, the Bluetooth connection will not work.
- Phone/Music Control: This 3-way lever controls both your music playback and phone calls (when connected by Bluetooth). In music mode, you can pause/play by pressing the button, and can slide the button up/down for previous/next track. When a call comes in, you can answer the call and pause your music by pressing the button. Once the call is complete, pressing the button will end the call and resume audio play.
Audio Cable: The M4U 8 MKII includes an 81" tangle-free audio cable for listening to your music in passive mode. There are 3.5mm audio jacks on the bottom of both ear cups, allowing you to choose which side you prefer. In passive mode, the onboard audio controls are disabled, so you'll have to control your music on the device. The audio cable comes with a 3.5mm-to-1/4" adapter for use with audio equipment with a full-size headphone jack, and an airline adapter for connecting to in-flight entertainment.
USB Cable: The included 79" USB cable has a dual purpose. You can use it to charge the battery in your headphones by plugging it into your computer or a USB power adapter (DC 5V, 2.4A or less). You can also listen to audio from your computer.
Battery: The M4U 8 MKII is equipped with a 1.2V, 1000mAh rechargeable battery for powering ANC and Active Mode. The battery charges via USB in approximately 4 hours. Average battery life is approximately 25 hours in Wireless Active Mode, and 18 hours in Wireless ANC Mode.

Amazing restoration of fidelity. The personal sound calibration by Audiodo restored components of recordings that I didn't know existed. If you are an older "audiophile" who is looking for something more in your music, then give these headphones a try...they will put a smile on your face!!
