Chicago
Brett from Chicago on 10/5/2022
I bought this router and started having issues with it about 6 months in. After talking with Google support 3 - 4 times a day they are unable to help me and never get back to me after they escalate the issue. After a year of regularly troubleshooting this and hoping that an engineer would look at logs I sent to them they never got back to me. They eventually agreed to replace the system after almost 2 years of issues and then told me that my product was out of warranty even though I had originally reached out while still under warranty. Do not buy this router or anything google it is not reliable at all. My Nest hub screen went out just after the warranty expired and the remote for my google TV needs to be replaced for the second time due to buttons going out.
Pros: None
Cons: Poor customer support Poor stability Internet constantly drops Poor hardware

Returned
Joseph from Surfside Bch, SC on 6/20/2022
Primary reason I returned it is there is only one spot for ethernet connections. I need two. It was also not fun to set up. Your expert helped a lot, but I really didn't want to get that tied to Google. I won't order a Google anything in the future.
Pros: Nice looking
Cons: One one ethernet connection.

Good Router-Brainless Setup (not a positive)
Crutchfield customer from Tucson, AZ on 6/8/2021
I've had the router for a few weeks now and it performs just fine. My main issue is with the setup. While a "brainless" setup is fine for some who want a vanilla installation, it is not great for those with a higher level of competence. For starters, I tried to use the same SSID as my old router so that I did not have to change logins but this failed. The reason was that at one point of the setup, before it was completely configured, these devices tried to login to the new router and it caused the setup to fail. Took me a hour to figure this out so I named the network something different, set it up, and then changed the name to the old network name. It also was late in the process before I could change the IP address to 192.168.1.1 instead of ....60.1 so my devices would all reconnect seamlessly. It would have been nice to be able to just login to the IP address and talk directly to the router. It appears to use Cisco's DD-WRT software but the only way to talk to it is through the Google WiFi android app which begs the whole question of what you would do if you only had Window's devices and a land line in your home?? If there was a real manual somewhere, you might have been able to figure it out but it took me, a fairly sophisticated user, a while to figure it all out on my own. With only one ethernet port once you connect the modem, I needed to add a bridge to connect my Cloud drive and ATA phone adapter. Still a nice product, worth the price, once it
Pros: Nice router, small footprint, good performance.
Cons: No option but a simple setup. Poor documentation. Only one ethernet port once you connect to your modem.

Google Nest Wifi Router and Point

Fast delivery, great coverage in a difficult space that has a lot of interference. The Point as a smart speaker is really useful & has started us on a route of adding more Google smart home devices. The router itself is one of the highest rated for wifi speed, and gets us what we need for our 1600 sq ft space
Pros: price, performance, convenience
Cons: you should research google privacy

1. The Tech guy at Crutchfield was awesome!! 2. The google nest router and point set up pretty well but required some additional help from your tech guy that was not obvious and it 2 or 3 tries but all is well
Pros: Better than my wifi extenders, better signal and the nest auto switches between 2.4 & 5GHz depending on the device
Cons: instructions not well defined

Google Nest Wifi Router and Point
Crutchfield customer from West Linn, OR on 10/5/2020
It is very convenient for shutting off internet access to devices. It does not have functionality like: set time limits as opposed to just pauses/un-pause blocks of time, pause/un-pause for a certain amount of time out side of the normal schedule, and unpause, something even though it is part of a group that may be currently paused (you have to go in and edit the schedule instead of just clicking "un-pause" on the device. It does not let you block specific domain URLs.

Excellent
Crutchfield customer from Layton, UT on 9/13/2020
Excellent product... I resisted buying because of price but then Crutchfield had it on sale. The mesh network it creates is pretty remarkable going from a simple Almond router. Get wifi coverage not just in my whole home, but most of my 1/3 acre lot. Current home is about 2600 sqft, will definitely add more points if we move to a bigger home in the next few years.

Simplify your wifi with a mesh router.
Robert from PACIFIC GROVE, CA on 6/23/2020
My old router had two bands, and each band had its own SSID. Later, I added a wi-fi extender, and it too had two bands, and each one of them had ITS own SSID. That's a lot of networks to manage, and that's before adding a guest network. With the Google Nest Router and Point, you configure only ONE SSID, which is used by both the router and the point. Your devices are automatically connected to which ever band and whichever part of the Nest mesh that provides the strongest signal. TIP: if you have an wi-fi extender, be sure to disconnect it before starting the set up, or your phone may connect to it, instead of to the router. The router does NOT have a WPS button, and that's on purpose. WPS is an older technology that has been compromised. So, if you have any devices that want to use WPS to connect to the router, you're going to have to read the instruction manual to find an alternate way to connect them.
Pros:
Cons: You have to take a picture of the QR code It was hard for me to get a clear shot of the router's QR code with the power cable and the Ethernet cable to my computer attached. Of course, having re-read the instruction manual, I noticed that they didn't initially specify I should make that connect before initiating the setup. Another thing: the router has only 2 Ethernet connection. You may want to purchase an Ethernet switch if you need more wired connections.

Cincinnati
Max from Cincinnati on 4/26/2020
Overall - I wish I had made this purchase a long time ago. I was dealing with a weak wifi signal on two of the three stories of our home. The basement being the worst - where streaming was an issue, loss of internet was common. Ultimately it took a few hours to set up for a few quirky reasons. 1) Prior I had a Netgear extender and my phone (which I used to set up the Nest) was tuned to the extender. For the set up to work, my phone had to be set up with the prior router wifi. That took some time to figure out. Secondly - for some reason, the first password I created wouldn't work on any of the Points. So that had to be figured out. Once those were overcome things went pretty well. So now I have the router on the second floor and a Point on both the first floor and the basement. The Point in the basement wasn't probably needed but I did see about a 20% boost in speed. Now - for the really great news: My download speeds were about 5 - 10Mbps in the basement with frequent loss of internet and stalled streaming. After two days of use, I've not seen a single issue. Basement download speeds are now about 80-120Mbps. 8 - 20x faster. And the wifi on the second floor near the router is >200Mbps. The apps shows we have 10 devices (more than I thought). No wonder we were having issues. Had to reset all gizmos and may need some help with the BlueSound speakers and the Direct TV mini gene seems like it will need tech support to connect. Very happy with the improvement
Pros: Excellent improvement in speed and bandwidth Looks good Microphone and speaker are handy
Cons: Due to a few odd issues, set up wasn't a breeze but ultimately worked Had to reset EVERYTHING that was wifi-based in the house.
