My education and background in philosophy and clinical psychology, and over 30 years in the field, help me assist individuals with a broad range of life difficulties (anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties), taking a rather wholistic approach to the person. I see my goal as helping individuals learn more about themselves (their hidden strengths and weaknesses) so they can build upon their strengths, minimize the effects of their weaknesses, and thus more efficiently and effectively face the concerns that are causing stress. To this end a number of self-report personality measures are administered which help identify strengths and weaknesses.

I have experience in family counseling, couples counseling, and individual from ages 6 to 70.
I believe that everyone can use some extra support in life sometimes. Whether that is due to a current life situation in which you might need someone to listen to you and/or provide some extra support and guidance or you are struggling with past experiences. I also understand how difficult it can be to reach out and start the process of counseling and to find someone that you feel you can connect with. My goal is to help you feel supported and heard during these times while helping you navigate through changes, self esteem concerns, trauma, anxiety, depression and whatever else you may need. I hope together we can reach your goals.

I also enjoy troubleshooting relationship issues in the business sector.
When you're with me, trust that it will be a HIPAA compliant, safe and secure experience, with optional, scheduled office appointments upon request. Who is a typical client and what brings him or her to seek help? You are an individual who may have a busy schedule, a family, or perhaps a physical or psychological mobility issue. You are someone who may have no previous exposure to therapy, counseling or consultation services, or someone who is a seasoned traveler. Whatever the reason, your comprehensive needs are my professional priority.

I often work with people that are dealing with relationship stress, anxiety, life transitions (grief, divorce, new relationships) and depressive symptoms.
Does it ever feel like you are making the same mistakes over and over? Do you feel stuck, almost like you are losing hope that change is actually possible? Maybe you are questioning making a major life change and could use some help processing it through? I am passionate about you experiencing personal growth and breakthrough. I focus on where you've gotten stuck in unhealthy patterns and unhealthy negative thinking loops. Better awareness of what is holding you back is the first step toward positive change and healthier choices in your life.

I have over 7 years of practice, including a wide array of experience, working with clients of all age groups individually, with couples and in groups.
Every client is unique and is facing their own distinctive challenges. Therefore each treatment plan should be personalized and individualized. An ideal client is one who comes to counseling with an open mind and is ready to try new approaches and coping skills. Each person will benefit differently from a wide variety of approaches. Together we can and will find the right strategies that work best for you. There is not a "normal" or "standard" cookie-cutter path. It is a journey! I have experience working with issues as grief, anxiety, anger, mood, neurological, trauma, relationship issues, substance use disorders, and more.

I help clients to change their relationship with anxiety and help them to avoid their obsessions & compulsions.
My ideal client is an individual who is motivated despite obstacles that stand in his/her way. The client realizes that their disorder does not have to define them.  My ideal client does not always come into the session feeling happy and carefree but remains optimistic about the future. My ideal client is open to listening and practicing techniques learned in sessions. The client realizes that positive change comes with time and effort. They realize that there are no "magic words" in the therapy session.  The ideal client is open to learning more about their challenges by reading the assigned psychoeducational materials provided.

You or your adolescent may be experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional sensitivity, relationship issues or difficulty focusing. I have extensive experience as a doctoral-level cognitive behavioral therapist and I believe helping individuals understand how their thoughts and behaviors contribute to intense emotions is key to mental health. Challenging unhealthy thinking and learning how to think differently can be very effective. I teach specific and diverse skills and coach people on using them in real-life situations. I often share behavioral management techniques to help clients gain control over repetitive or compulsive actions and reduce anxiety in feared situations.

My approach is holistic, open, honest, and direct. Clients will be welcomed with an empathetic and respectful environment where you will receive support and encouragement.

One of my joys in counseling is working with couples and helping them through that journey as well.
The number one “rule” we therapists follow is autonomy for our clients – you lead the sessions, make your decisions, and allow yourself to have space and time to unburden yourself. Of course, we therapists are there to assist you through this journey. Mental health therapy is a journey to explore and become self-aware of the whys of what we do. My goal is to guide you through that journey when you need assistance.

I believe in an individualized approach for every client and working with you to determine the best methodology to get you where you want to be. I will help you tell your life story, and will work with you to find insight and meaning for the future. While on your journey, you will find that I can offer and link you with additional resources to empower you beyond the therapy room. Finally, if a relationship with me as a therapist is not working, I encourage my clients to be open and honest so that we can get them on the correct path to healing.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
