Using a trauma-informed lens, I draw from a variety of theoretical frameworks and evidence-based modalities including psychodynamic techniques, CBT, and DBT to tailor treatment to meet the clinical needs and goals of each individual client.
I am deeply passionate about supporting people through life’s challenges and empowering them to live authentic and fulfilling lives. I specialize in working with teens and adults struggling with maladaptive behavior patterns such as eating disorders and substance abuse, and common co-occurring issues including low self-esteem, anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma. I provide a warm, comfortable, and judgment-free space to explore thoughts, feelings, experiences, and vulnerabilities. My goal is to engage clients in a process of self-reflection, self-discovery, and positive change in order to achieve a greater sense of wellbeing.

Most therapy approaches focus on understanding ourselves intellectually, thereby engaging the left side of our brain. Yet, sustainable change happens through whole-mind integration, where the body, brain, as well as relational field are parts of the healing process. Using a blend of Somatic Experiencing®, Trauma and Attachment Therapy, Depth Psychology, and Dream Analysis, Somatic Counseling offers the body and psyche the support needed to discharge, renegotiate and reorganize locked-in fight, flight and freeze responses that are stored in the nervous system. A process that is compassionate and respectful to your needs and rhythm.

I have extensive experience working with adolescents and adults coping with a wide variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, challenging life circumstances, life transitions, relationship issues, and trauma.
Reaching out to a therapist can be a daunting task. It is difficult to make changes and break unhealthy patterns and anxiety and depression can feel crippling. Therapy can play a large role in helping individuals lead happier, more productive lives. We all face challenges but with the proper support, your challenges do not need to define you or stop you from achieving happiness and success. I believe in treating each patient as an individual. While my orientation is primarily psychodynamic I also use Emotionally Focused Tapping (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Moreover, my practice has been focused in supporting individuals with (but not limited to) PTSD, trauma, victimization, relationship issues and substance abuse/recovery.
Therapy is a journey that offers us an opportunity to gain perspective and aid in the facilitation of change. It takes courage to make this investment in one's self. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, empathic and holistically focused. Utilizing a strengths based perspective incorporates varied treatment strategies; therefore, therapy is uniquely tailored to reflect an individual's intrinsic strengths and potential for self-actualization.

If life has felt particularly hard or upsetting recently, know that you don’t have to navigate it alone. As a psychotherapist, I meet with people living with anxiety, depression, grief and more. I frequently work with adults who have experienced childhood trauma, helping them to understand past experiences and thrive in the present and future. My clients have often realized that their current coping skills are no longer working, and in seeking therapy are taking an important, difficult and necessary step to feel better.

I offer a combination of talk therapy and a trauma therapy called EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing).
I work with creative thinkers and queer adults to restore trust in your instincts so that you can make choices that are aligned with your values. We are born the innate ability to heal and a strong capacity for connection, pleasure, and creativity. Many symptoms that torment us (depression, rage, panic, anxiety, shame, obsession) feel unbearable, especially when the world feels unsafe or when we feel isolated, so we leave our bodies to be taken over by the symptoms. Therapy is an incubator for restoring these capacities, returning to our bodies, reconnecting with other people, and creating a life worth living.

In developing my specialty, I combined my commitment to excellence in clinical practice with a longstanding interest in brain science, trauma healing and family therapy.
Do you -- or someone you love-- have trouble staying focused, keeping track of things, being on time or managing interruptions? If you're concerned about a youngster, is s/he smart but getting mediocre grades? Does s/he daydream, take too long to complete homework, forget things frequently? Does s/he blurt out answers precipitously? Or leap before s/he looks? These are problems everyone has at times, but if these things have been happening for a long time, happen very often and are severe enough to impair a person's natural ability to function, it could be ADHD.

While our personal histories may inform our current struggles, it does not define who we are, or who we may become. Using an client-centred approach, I believe strongly in the power of self-efficacy, attachment theory, developmental psychology, family systems and neuroscience. Guiding my practice with trauma informed care, I assist clients in developing their unique resilience story. This begins with relational connection, warmth and radical acceptance co-created in the therapeutic environment.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
