Ranasinghe Premadasa, the 3rd President of Sri Lanka, was assassinated on 1 May 1993. Premadasa had also served as Sri Lanka 's 8th Prime Minister, and an MP from Colombo Central district. Premadasa, along with 23 others, were killed in an explosion set off by the LTTE during a May Day rally held in the country's capital of Colombo.
