Fire and response [ edit] On 2 January 2022, just after 05:00 am ( SAST ), the City of Cape Town 's Fire & Rescue Service were notified of a fire at the parliamentary complex. The fire started on the third floor of the National Council of Provinces building and spread to the office space and the gymnasium, before spreading to the National Assembly.
