The East Genesee Historic Business District covers two blocks of Genesee Avenue. It originally had 23 structures; many have subsequently been demolished. The buildings dated primarily from the 1880s, 1890s and early 1900s. The buildings are Victorian in character, with elements of Italianate, Queen Anne, and Romanesque Revival architecture.

Saginaw (/ ˈ s æ ɡ ɪ n ɔː /) is a city in and the seat of Saginaw County, Michigan, United States. [4] The city proper had a population of 44,202 at the 2020 census. [5] Located along the Saginaw River, Saginaw is adjacent to Saginaw Charter Township and considered part of Greater Tri-Cities region of Central Michigan.
Abel Brockway was born in 1818, and arrived in Saginaw in 1856. A shrewd businessman, he invested in a number of early ventures in Saginaw, including lumbering, railroads, banking, and other industries. In 1859, he purchased a plot of farmland (now bounded by Wells, Thurman, Gratiot, and Brockway Streets) from Benjamin Cushway.
